As a newbie, I was just wondering how many of you utilize walkie talkie communications between you and your navigator when backing into campground spots. Also, recommended models as I know many do not crack up to their advertised ranges. Thanks

Tried them but found that, for us, hand signals were much more useful. Watch the guys parking airplanes at airports or on aircraft carriers for how to make signals that work.

I use a cell phone with ear buds and clip on mic, Jay stands behind the MH and gives directions. If no cell service we switch to a hand held 1.5w CB for her and my MH CB, the cell phone is easier as it enables hands free (for me) 2 way simultaneous communication.

We use RV HEADSTES. They are short range FM and allow 2 way communication with out having to push buttons or wait for other person to start / stop speaking. www.rvheadsets.com We did something to one of our headsets and sent them back for repair. a week later we got them back, one unit replaced.... FREE. When we asked for an invoice they simply said "repair on us..... Merry Christmas. Wife and I really like them. ed

We use them little cheap ones from ebay. We have one radio for each child as well so they know when to come back to eat.

we have an old cb radio installed with a short antenna and we use a radio shack 100 m.watt walkie talkie. it works better then anything else i've seen with friends or watching other rvers. my answer is - it is the only way period.

Gosh, are we the only ones that use the mike (mic) built into the camera?

Mic in the camera? Heck, I haven't even had a camera for about 6 years! Good hand signals from a loving co-pilot is worth it weight in gold.

We use Motorola T5950's. They also come in handy when the wife is doing laundry and needs something, or if she is out on her scooter, and tips it over, which has happen.

I also have a set from Cobra that have a weather alert on them. They were on sale at a local store called Farm and Fleet.

We picked the radios' that have a knob to turn on/off, and has a lock out button so the channels can't get changed. The reason for the on/off knob is that it is easier to use if you have hand problems. It's hard for my wife to use buttons on almost anything.

As far as range, they have worked everyplace that we have needed them.

Being as on my wife's last job she carried an HT (Motorola's name for Walkie Talkies) I tried.. But alas, we never managed to chat well using them so I use a different method now (Hands free cell phone if needed).

To me, using a radio, hand held or otherwise. is kind of like typing on a computer. Very natural.. I did it professionally for a quarter century, and nearly 2x that as a hobby.

I use the Walkie Talkies, have tratalk got them at Walmart great for backing up at camp site.
But are really good for getting the satellite dialed in.

We use a set of inexpensive walkie talkies. DH turns up his volume and places it in the drivers cup holder. This way he can hear as I direct his positioning into the campsite. Works great for us.

We use cell phones or the back up camera. She stands in back behind the camera and gives me the hand signals. To signal STOP she waves her arms frantically and screams hysterically. It makes for pretty good TV except for that small screen.

We use Motorola walkie talkies and would not back into a campsite without using them. I do not need to stay in view of the mirrors or camera and can concentrate on the backing MH.
