Hello Aev:

From another forum RVParkingfor_Veterans, someone posted information that about Wal Marts that Do Not allow parking. They listed the following three Wal Marts in IA that do not allow overnight parking are in Ames, Daveport and Decorah. I am assuming that the rest permit overnight parking. I would suggest contacting the store manager before parking for the night.

You can buy a directory that lists "no parking" Walmarts here

And here is a free listing provided by Allstays.com: No parking Walmarts

Arv,I would call the WalMart store.
A few of those on the Allstay, com site may not be correct. I stayed at a couple that is listed on the site just a few months ago.

I agree with Joe. Why not call the store and get the information right from "the horse's mouth"?

Here's a link to the Council Bluffs, IA store's information page on Wal-Mart's web site.

They're listed in a great book called "The Next Exit" as well...

When traveling rather late in the evening through TN lately it was obvious we were too late for a campground and were going to need to stop so I had my daughter call the store direct.
I think one always should talk to the store, even if you get there and walk inside...

Merry Christmas everyone.

The Walmart in Brownfield, Texas is listed as a NO Parking store but we had stopped there on our way thru a couple of years ago. I went in and checked with the manager and his reply was "You're welcome to park here overnight, but there is a city park just down the street that has hookups and it's free."

We found the park and it was very nice with W/E/S hookups situated next to city ballfields. There was a locked "Donation Box" and I happily put my five bucks in. The city has made a great effort to make visitors feel welcome.

Thanks for the input, I will be calling the walmart store in Council Bluffs soon. There was a RV park at Bluffs Run Casino, but was closed a couple of years ago. It makes it dificult to find a place to stop and rest for a few hours.

OUCH!!! Looks like Arizona doesn't want any boondocking, lol. I guess they want you to use the RV Parks. The other issue here is the HOA's but that's another thread. I'm still doing my homework, ha ha. Merri

According to Allstay.com, the place to go is SD as there are no Wal-marts banning "camping". The bulk of the stores banning camping seem to be in destination states. Could it be that the priviledge was abused at these stores? I know some communities have banned all parking-lot camping, but I am sure that is not the case in all these stores.

The one experience we had regarding Walmart overnight camping was in Redding Ca. It turns out that if you are near a campground then Walmart probably CANNOT let you park there. Redding has a ban on it - so that they will be able to get the sales tax collected at the campgrounds - and the local campgrounds also get revenue.

In other words...Expect to not be allowed at a Walmart if there is a campground in the city limits...
