Several options
I have used the Walmart Mail Order Pharmacy in Texas for prescriptions being filled on my Medicare Part D plan. They will ship to any address you want and you can change the shipping address for refills at any time.
The alternative is to give your prescription to any Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. You can have them filled at any of their stores.
I use Good RX for my prescriptions and dropped my Medicare Part D plan. Good RX is much less expensive and they list your cost by the store the Good RX price follows you. There are other services that do the same thing so you can choose the one you want.

Sadly, GoodRX is still approaching $500/mo for what we pay $27/mo on our Part D. I hope you realize that by dropping Part D you will be penalized 10% per year for each year you did not have it if you ever sign up again.

If you do it online, just be careful when you fill it the next time at home. If you forget to change your address back to home, the Walmart in Timbuktu will be calling to say that your prescription is ready.

However, the next time you need a refill, the NY Walmart does not permit a transfer to an out of NY Walmart. I believe this is a state law and not a Walmart policy. Fortunately, we were near an adjoining state and had not problem with the Walmart there.

I had the same problem. A simple call to my home state Walmart fixed the problem when they had the doctor issue a new prescription.

Yes, I did that once! When I went in to pick up the prescription I found out it was sitting on a shelf 5 states away! Gotta remember those pesty details! But again, it was easy to fix. The Walmart I was trying to pick it up at simply canceled the other states fill, and moved the scrip to them to fill.

We too use Walmart Mail Order (Carolton TX) for our Medicare prescriptions. Works reasonably well, but I wish they had an internet web interface since you have to call to refill prescriptions.
As for the alternative, we found that to be untrue. Was told that since our prescriptions were in a Walmart in another state they had to be transferred to the new Walmart (where we were traveling) and to have the provider write new prescriptions and send them to the new Walmart. That was too difficult, and took too much time. So we switched to the mail order pharmacy.

We never had to have the doctor write a new prescription to have it transferred. You were told wrong.

It may have been a state requirement, but when it happened to us it was a PITA to get the prescriptions transferred from our home state to the state we were staying in.
And again, the Walmart home delivery pharmacy has been an excellent solution to traveling as you can specify a shipping address!

Just a heads up! If you need a med that is a controlled substance you may have a problem. Some states will not accept a doctors prescription if he is not licensed in that state they may not accept his prescription. I have also used Walgreens with success in having my prescription filled. This became a serious problem and I strongly recommend that you make plans accordingly to your destinations and your needs.

many states have their own laws. Wife had an injectable script we filled in AZ and they would not sell us needles. We were told we needed script to get them????? You just sold us an injectable! Dumb part is we went to a local feed store and bought the needles we needed. Sealed in the exact packaging but sold for animals, no script needed.

Exceptions to transfer of prescription
We have been traveling for a year now, and have had no problems transferring from one Walmart to another for NON Medicare prescriptions. Any prescription reimbursed through Medicare requires a prescription to stay at the pharmacy where it is first submitted. Why? IDK. I have glucose monitor strips covered under Medicare that I had to carry an additional copy of the prescription in order to create the prescription at a new location. I got a 3 month supply for the maximum number of strips I could ever need in that timeframe and avoided repeated hassle. Not a controlled substance for sure. I was very happy this was the only one covered by Medicare.

We've never had any issues transferring prescriptions covered by Medicare from WalMart in Montana to Arizona for the winter and then back to Montana in the spring. That's a total of 9 prescriptions 2x per year. None of them are for opioids or narcotics. Not sure why you are having issues unless it is your specific Medicare plan.
