If none of those amenities existed, they wouldn't be able to use them. Just give me an easy access pull through site with a 30 or 50 amp elec hookup and I'm good, at least for an overnight. Problem is, I'm guessing local and state regulations regarding campgrounds would not allow it. I suspect they'd insist any 'campground' must include at least restrooms, and who knows what else. Now it becomes non-viable.

I'd pay $10 for a pull through (with electric) for 10 hours sleep!

At WM I pay $0 for a pull through (with no electric) and a fully stocked 24 hour discount store on site...

Right now, I haven't been given the choice for the $10 site, so it is a moot point. I am forced to choose between...

$4 an hour and lots of inconvinience (CG)
$0 an hour and lots of convinience (WM)

Hmmmm......WM wins with me!

There are two walmarts we could nt stay in. One was in Louisville, Kentucky and the guard directed us to one we could, just down the road 5 miles. Another was in Colorado Springs, and we had already decided the neighborhood looked way too dangerrous just to stop in. The guard there gave us a coupon for reduced rate down the road. The busiest walmart, camper wise was in Twin Fall Idaho and that placed looked like an RV park.

I love Walmarts, they are courteous many have a Mickey D which serves my purpose nicely.

There are ways to resolve that. Porter RV Resort near Moab has an owner's section. The other section isn't allowed to use the amenities in the owner's section. Don't remember if there was a seperate gate or what but it appeared to work.

IMHO, it's more about having $10 sites as compared to having sites at $30 or whatever the going rate is.

Just curious how much electric $10 will buy in a 10-12 hour period. 2 roof air or 2-3 1500 watt heaters, electric hot water, microwave, electric fry pan, and / or electric refrigerator. Does it leave any money for grounds maintenance, or trash disposal, and not to forget the initial costs for land and capitol improvements of stone or paving. Don't know about elsewhere, but electric around east coast is quite expensive. Of coarse no one would expect to use all these amenities.

I have a sneaking suspicion that few campground owners will put in a "no-frills" section because they fear (and justifiably so!) that many of the $35/nighters currently in their park only needed $10 or so of services. How many weekenders or infrequent RVers even KNOW that Walmart is an overnight parking option?

We have stayed a Wal-Mart the last 4 nights (4 different ones) and it has gotten down to 41 degrees. I have to run the generator to charge up my AGM batteries to run the propane heater fan as well as my sleep apnea machine. Probably doesn't save that much money, but it sure is easy. One night, we had somebody in a tag axle Fore Travel run his generator all night and also had spotlights on all four corners of his rig. Strange.
