The ban on Walmarts has nothing to do with drugs, trash, loitering, etc. That's just an urban myth spread by greedy camp ground owner, greedy politicians and people who think they are too good to set foot in a Walmart.

Not so in my town which has no campgrounds, but does have Nero complex politicians. Campers rubbing it in makes it much worse.

This thread is way too long and diverse... After spending a while looking through the threads I am no closer to making a travel decision than when I began. Some folks resent Walmart stop overs, and some don't... It appears that Walmart itself is okay with overnight stop overs, it makes good sense for Walmart to extend a "helping hand" to travelers, although there are jurisdictions, such as ours in Southern Nevada that prohibit overnight stops in commercial parking lots, I mean come on, the casino owners don't want it, as it might take a nickel out of their pockets, and our County Commissioners would NEVER do anything to upset a casino owner.
Back to my point, which I am sure has been amply covered in this on-going thread. We are new to RVing, and we are planning our first "major" get-away for the summer of 2013, and I am planning to use a Walmart or two. From what I gather, always ask first, be polite, don't leave a mess, and be as invisible as possible, and above all...give Wally some of your business.

And use your slides and gennie if you got 'em! Only a fellow RVer will even notice and only a few Walmart police type will object.

Someone has to remind these old school politicians that the tax for Wallydocking is the money we spend inside Wally World which in turn is translated into city and area taxes paid by Wally World. In Montana I always plan to be at Bear canyon campground when I travel in the midwest. I like the staff the services and the location because it is near to the 300 mile travel limit we self impose. In other areas Wallydocking fits the bill better so I then Wallydock.
I sorta kinda figure that "The Land of The Free" and "The Home of the Brave" is slowly being usurped from you lot by overeager politicians.

I certainly agree and the constant BBQ'ing, awnings, circle the wagons, ETC activities that the few posters here keep advocating in the name of individual freedom (on somebody else's property) is just like waving a red flag in the face of these politicians. This is a large reason we are losing our privileges at more and more Wal-Marts. I have given up on these types as lost causes. You can't fix stupid, but I do wish they would stop trying to get the new Wally Dockers to follow their destructive, activities. It just hastens the closures of more stores.

You are right, you can't fix stupid. Stupid people who don't recognize a joke or someone teasing just to get a rise out of someone.

The chicken price went up!!!!
I was getting my usual pound of barbeque chicken nuggets when I noticed the price had gone from $5 where it was at for years, to $5. 78 a lb.!!
And they say inflation is checked and the economy is doing better.. . Not if my chicken costs more it aint!!

Can it be possible that the bull being baited by the mostly baloneyous "red flag" statements in this ridiculous thread is closer to home?
Results would seem to indicate it to be so...

I am gearing up to take my 78 yr old mother and my son and stepson to all lower 48 states. My son's have both had heart values replaced, and when we travel to unfamiliar cities it's much easier for me to tell a 911 dispacther "I'm at walmart parking lot" then try to tell them what campground I am at or what BLM I am at. If you would like to poke fun at me for this go ahead, but let me tell you being in my old RV at a walmart parking lot 2 years ago saved my life when 911 was called, I just happened to stop in Rochester MN because I was to tired and not feeling well and wanted to sleep, turns out I found myself headed to the operating room at 5AM for gallbladder removal and we back at the RV by 5PM and on my way into the Cities. The emergency personal told me I was lucky I was at Walmart and not down the road at the camp ground simply because it was easier for them to find me. Mayo personal who heard my story agreed and when my son had his heart surgery and was discharged to return back home to Colorado, several told me to park at the walmarts along the way in just in case my son had any trouble as it would be faster and safer for emergency personal to located me since I have a cell phone and not all 911 systems are enhanced. On the way home, we stopped in Lincoln NE, we parked the RV and took the SUV to get dinner, lots of road construction going on and it was dark, raining and after an hour of trying to find our way back - I called 911 and their system could plysically see me and direct me back to walmart to get the SUV. Their is nothing wrong with walmart overnights, in fact their security has always been great. I've never had a problem at any walmart anywhere. And, I am serious about using walmarts for our sleep overs as we travel through the Country. If someone wants to meet up at a walmart and join our venture great, their welcome to come along. My son will never have the opportunity to see all the states unless I take him and when I am gone, he will at least have the memory of his jouney through America with mom and grandma.

I think most is said in jest because it takes somebody with a screw loose to think that those things are ok. But for the ones that do abuse walmarts hospitality, did you ever wonder if they had some alterior motive? Maybe they are trying to raise a red flag.

I agree, but we still keep getting posts from new folks thinking it is condoned and this is America we can do what we want. I have been parking at Wal-Mart for over a decade and keep seeing these idiots telling others to do whatever they want, it is OK as long as there isn't a sign up. Many of the readers of this forum are newbees as we all were once. They come here seeking advise. Generally they get great advise (I sure have), but a few here give destructive advise in the name of humor. In my time, I have seen so many stores stop the privilege, I think we should all strive to preserve it. Telling a new RVer that it is fine to set up camp at Wal-Mart and BBQ as long as you buy the hot dogs may be said in jest, but this is the type of thing that gets us banned. People come here seeking advise and don't realize it is the comedy channel.

Well, I'll be hornswoggled...I didn't realize one could actually get advi Ce in the Walmart's Parking thread.
There's something I've been meaning to ask:
I don't have slides, a generator, a satellite dish, a black tank that needs emptying, a full size charcoal grill, a patio rug, or an Outdoor La-Z-Boy recliner. And I can't put my jacks down anymore as I ripped them off going over a curb at the Get-n-Go.
Will I still be allowed to park overnight at Walmart?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Francesca
