To reiterate my point, if you have to find a phone number of what you think might be the right agency, it isn't going to happen. You are from Michigan, you are at a WalMart in Tennessee, and you want the non-emergency number for the PD in (gee what city am I in)... I think everyone knows by memory the number for 911. (Wink)

And for any of you that want to order pizza the number is 9-1-1, in that order.

According to the Etiquette propounded by several of the major RV clubs in North America, you shouldn't put out your slides or put down your jacks.

Putting out slides antagonizes the locals who don't want a "trailer park" in their neighborhood. That's one of the main arguments used at municipalities who adopt ordinances banning overnight parking in store lots.

Putting down your jacks can ruin the asphalt coating of the parking lot.

Running the generator all night depends upon where you are parked. If there are residences behind you, please don't run it. It's not really fair to the people who live there to hear your noise all night and that issue also becomes ammunition in the local wars against overnight parking.

It is abuse of the invitation to treat the right to park overnight as anything BUT parking overnight.

I think I would have walked up to the two dumping the oil and said something straight to them. Hopefully preventing them from doing so if the timing were right. Most places that sell motor oil also will take used motor oil for recycling. We need to do our part in educating the ignorant as to how to properly dispose of things that will effect our environment and cost us tax payers more money to clean up the mess.

I haven't ever done this personally, but I plan to do it as much as possible during a 3 week trek up to Washington and back (to SoCal). It's a biz trip going up and I don't want to have to check in to a CG just to get up in the morning and keep on truckin'. I have no experience with doing it, but I'm surely going to be thankful for it.

In my TH, I have to slide both my slides out to get to the fridge & stuff. I don't have a problem climbing over stuff if I'm just sleeping there overnight & taking off in the early AM though. As long as I can get to my bed, the head and liquid bread.

I can only speak for the 911 in SW Washington but you can call, when seeing something for that (pouring oil in a storm drain), and state right when they answer that "this is not an emergency call" then state what you saw. I was told to do this by a friend who worked for 911.

I have done this when I saw a drunk driver (or someone ill as they were drifting across lines, on the road, like they weren't there). I also did it when the end of my cul-de-sac was flooding and water was coming OUT of the storm drain and not the other way around. I called them, just before Christmas, when someone hit my car (I wasn't in it, it was parked on the street).

In all the above cases 911 told me that calling them was the right thing to do.

Has nothing to do with slides. Campground owners see Wally's filling up while there camps sit empty. Slide outs are a convenient excuse and distraction from the truth. Post 1000 didn't quite put closure to the subject so we might as well go another thousand posts

My only concern about slideouts is the some folks need to be careful that they are extended over a non-drivable area. I've seen some near hits on some of those slideouts. I really don't care you you extend you slides. I also think it's okay to sit outside your RV in a folding chair. An awning, I'm not too sure but I have seen it done once... folks had pets sitting in the grass with their awing extended... it was horribly hot. If I had a pet, I would have done the same. I think their tow vehicle was having problems because I'm sure I saw it at one of the auto shops. They were in the parking lot for two days (truck was gone most of the day but someone in the trailer) and then gone.

As for the length of this thread... if someone wants to learn about pavement parking/Wallydocking then it should answer any and all questions about it. It should be a "sticky" for pavement parking FAQ's.

I go along with Lorna, We ask if it's ok to park and if it is we set up away from any traffic/heavy parking or were they tell us to park. Walmart never told us not to put jacks down or slides out. Walmart never told us to go stelth. No we don't camp at walmart but for the evening we set up the coach so we can use it. we have 16" jack pads which we use so as not to damage the asphalt. No awnings, chairs or cookouts. Yes let dog walk in the grass and yes we clean up after her. It's the CG's that try and stop this parking so we will go to their business and can't blame them. CG owners tell stories about RV people dumping their tanks, leaving trash etc. One bad apple in the barrel makes us all look guilty. I see car shows and cook out stands for raising money and scouts selling cookies etc. at Walmart. We don't camp in someones back yard, it's a parking lot at a 24 hr. store. MY 2 CENTS.

I've seen this said a billion times.. anybody have any proof of this? Or is it just another repeated internet rumor? I ask 'cause everyone I have ever asked in person has never mentioned it.. and all the campgrounds around here, in season, are full anyways..

I think there is probably a small bit of truth to it but most cases all camp grounds are being painted with the same dirty brush.
