Water Holding Tank keeps filling...help

Hi, I have a 2003 Alfa toyhouse...purchased used. Have owners manual but does not address the issue we are having. would removing the city water pressure valve cause the water holding tank to fill? Or perhaps it is just coinsedence. If not would someone please direct me to the correct part on the 5th wheel that has to be addressed?

Sounds like the check valve in the pump is stuck. Trun the city water off and Try turning the pump in and off a few times. Tune the pump off and reconnect the city water.

Make sure you disconnect the hater hose and release pressure in the line, then cycle the pump. An older unit may have a separate check valve, so you may have to find it.

If you have a valve you turn for the city water to either fill the tank or go to the system(faucets) check and make sure that valve is actually closing all the way. On mine the handle had stripped where the valve stem was supposed to seat in the handle and the valve wouldn't open fully or close all the way.

Check valve as mentioned by Cavie. Might be worth changing out the whole pump if it's the original.

Pumps are easily and cheaply rebuilt.

bigd9 has the right answer. the pump check valve is only for the system to keep pressure whe no city water. when it senses low as you turn on faucet it turns on pump.. ansd it has nothing to do with city water filling tank

Unless it sticks open. That's how it fills the FW tank.

It has happened to Many, Many people. The reported fix works.

In my RV, the ways fresh water can get into the water tank either intentionally or unintentionally are:

Intentional
1. Gravity fill port
2. City water fill when the valve is turned to the "Fill Tank" position.

Unintentional
1. Leaking water pump check valve or seperate check valve
2. Leaking "Fill Tank/System" valve

Here is a drawing by another owner I found on this site a long time ago (I wish I could give him/her credit but I don't see that information). On the drawing you can see how if either (or both) check valve/switching valve are leaking, city water can slowly enter the fresh water tank.
Remember your RV could be plumbed slightly differently, but this drawing probably comes close to fitting most RV's out there.

I thought we had a H2O generator in ours as well!

Turned out to be small debris in the pump check valve and rubber bladders.

Usually just turning on the pump with city water on and off clears it now. Had to disassemble the pump the first time. Easy job.
