We have a star among us
If you haven’t had a child, spouse, friend or pet take a spill down the entry RV steps then you are quite fortunate.
Chances are you have and hopefully no one was hurt and you were able to laugh it off. We have had it happen multiple times and always just assumed there wasn’t much we could do about it until coming across this mod to the entry RV steps by “ Scarab0088” in the iRV2 Forums.
This was an article posted in the Do It Yourself RV news letter.

A nice safety modification. Both of our Safari TREKS came with this feature from the factory . Are there any other brands that do this? (I know that some DP's have power operated step well covers since the entry door is right at the passenger seat).

Both of our National products, Sea View and Sea Breeze LX came with a stair way cover. Never used them, never missed them.

Our Windsor has a hydraulically-operated sliding step cover but that's a great idea for those models that don't!

Our Mandalay has a hydraulic step cover. We use it every time we travel. When in motion our two fur babies like to lay at Mommas feet.

Fortunate? I haven't known anyone to take a fall down any stairs. However, there were a few times coming home legless from the tavern I fell going up them.

Our step cover is pneumatic and moves pretty quickly. We travel with two dachshunds and they sometimes get up in the seats and push the buttons on the side panels with their feet. Often we come home and the generator slide is out or the docking lights are on. One day we came home and when we opened the door the step cover was out. One dog was standing on the cover and the other dog was on the seat with her foot on the cover switch. The step retracted dropping the dog down the steps. We still have to carry her down the steps.

We have an electric stair cover which we use all the time. But that is a great modification for those that don't.

Aw shucks
Thanks for posting the news that we were quoted.
Actually, this is the second DIY mod we have done which made its way into a nationally known RV DIY website. The other was our swing-out dinette caps (yes, that is an electric fireplace we added in the background):
http://www.irv2.com/forums/f121/outl...ml#post1445999
...oddly, no one ever contacted us about sharing.
I chock this up to how BIG iRV2 is...everybody in the RV strata comes here sooner or later.
Safe travels
P.S. We LOVE the Faux Fireplace. Three heat settings, uses campground juice to save our propane, takes the chill off an early morning, and the glow from the 7 light levels is a perfect nightlight
