Weatherpro Awning will only go out or in a short distance?

So after many years of it working fine my awning decided to go out about 2 fet the other day and would not go any further. I tried to put it back in and it stopped about 6 inches from where it needed to be. Then I had someone run the button while I helped it go out, and it seemed like there was a spot it got hung up on, so after it was out I went on the roof and could see the fabric was out of adjustment. I centered the fabric at the roof top and secured it. Then the awning was working like new again. In and out many times, then a week later it doesnt want to go out again. Stop after going out about 4 feet. Now when I push the button for either direction I can see the motor give a slight nudge and then it quits. I do not believe the motor is overheating as it is certainly not being worked. What could this issue be?

We used to have an '05 Allegro Bay that probably had the exact same Weather Pro awning, and we had a similar problem with the awning moving only a short distance and stopping. The motor does have thermal overload protection that shuts off to cool the motor if it overheats. Unfortunately, lubing the motor and the bearing on the opposite end only helped a little.

You say the motor gives a slight nudge and then quits. If you push the button again right away does it nudge again? If not, try waiting a few minutes and then push the button again. If it nudges again after waiting a few minutes, then I would say it is the thermal switch cutting out. After a few minutes it resets and allows a little more movement.

If it is the thermal switch cutting out because the motor is overheating, then it may not look like it, but something is binding.

Disable the weather sensor and see if that makes any difference.

On my weather pro awning, when the wind sensor is disabled it will not extend without holding the button down continuously. With the wind sensor enabled, it extends all the way with one push of the button. You might check your electric connections on the wind sensor to see if there is a corrosion issue that is causing the malfunction.

I already had my weather sensor disabled. Anyway I went out to if it was overheating. I hit the button and it moved a foot so I figured I would force the overheating by moving it back and forth until it quit. Then it started going all the way out and all of a sudden it hit a rough spot and did not want to keep moving but it pushed through and its out now. So something is binding it up I think.
