WHR attempt to sell us out?????

I guess Slim Jim holds all the cards. Camp while we can because I'm sure there won't be any refunds. I attended the speech at Colorado Oasis this afternoon and had in hand a copy of the ad for 8 of his parks about an hour later, it was on MHRV aka www.mhrvadvisors.com . I bit for the whole thing starting in '03 and into Platinum Plus. My overall per night member camping is below $15; but if I still had the $9000 drawing the 8% I had it locked in at (still good; never got depressed) I'd be better off but its been a good run and we were out there more than we would have been otherwise. Maybe he'll put a resort in Moosefart Montana and we can all transfer there. Snuffy

I doubt if anyone would sell him another park seeing as how he is crying he's broke. Then again he would probably just lease it long enough to bilk us out of more money.

An open question to anyone currently staying on an WH property that's now for sale...

Are the sales folks still selling memberships?

Sounds like the kind of people that are selling pre-paid funerals here in the midwest.

Why The Anger?

G'morning All:

I'll say this, (though some won't hear it), .... I am not "taking sides" in this discussion about Western Horizons Resorts (WHR) but am simply interested in, and always have been curious about group dynamics and interpersonal relations. That is, how folks talk to each other, how groups form, interact and make decisions, how what people say can affect outcomes, etc., etc..

So, I'm curious about some of the comments I read here, which seem to reflect (at least to me), a degree of anger and distrust related to how WHR operates the business.

If this is true, why?

Steve

Some of the problems are the result of a failure to communicate information to members. Case in point being the fact that all the WH parks seem to be up for sale but members had to find out through the grapevine. It looks like Mr Loken is presently going from park to park in the SW trying to do damage control at this time.

Most members feel if they Paid thousands of dollars for membership in what was supposedly an rv resort association that had 23 to 25 parks that these parks would remain available to them and would be maintained. Today I believe there are about 12 parks available to members, most in need of repair. Pools and hot tubs are for the most part never open and if open may not be heated.

Many members myself included paid $500 extra to have access to any new parks WH purchased in the future. They have not purchased a new park in the 6 years I have been a member. The four parks closest to my home have now been sold and are no longer available to me.

I would think the majority of members are retired or close to it and purchased their memberships to help defray costs by paying up front when they had more disposable income. Today contracts that stated no fee camping have been circumvented with all types of extra charges.

Probably the anger and distrust you speak of is driven by the fact that many of us are mad at ourselves for being stupid enough to have believed the sales pitch and paying our hard earned money for a dream.

Steve (SSteve):

(Re: your question as to whether WHR is still selling membersips in post #17 above)

Had to double check, and, YES, WHR is still selling memberships.

Steve (too! )

Brian & Loretta (bdpreece)...Oooops....Chance too !

Thanks for your well explained response about why WHR members might exhibit some anger when finding out about the initiative to sell more WHR association parks.

Communication issues DO play a big part in how folks feel about this measure. Mr. Loken certainly is no Bob Tiffin when it comes to paying attentions to customer relations, but, having said this, it seems Mr. Loken is sincerely attempting to survive this era of dramatically accelerating costs which are driving alot of companies to find measures for staying alive.

Probably the biggest issue now is trust. Mr Loken has made a good point in his presentations in stating that as members we are hurting the company and ourselves by bad mouthing the company and driving away potential customers. But the others side of the coin may be that while we stop warning others not to make the same mistakes we did; he quietly divests himself of the company assets and slips away with the money.

I for one think WH parks are far better than most of the other park systems and I will continue to use them for as long as I can.

Any new Updates on WHR or K&M?

Have a friend that ran into an issue with K&M and WHR. Is this the only forum discussing WHR and affiliates?
