I have a missing sliding window latch that is a pretty simple plastic handle with a metal female thread imbeded. I was thinking of using another window's handle and have it copied on a 3D printer. Not sure what limitations 3D printers have

Hmmm....not sure if you could make a latch grip with an embedded nut very easily. Although I have made items with a hesxagonal hole that holds a nut, I guess you could glue something in the hexagonal hole. But my experience with the plastic is that it is not that strong if too thin, and I expect your latch is probably on the thin side. Do you have a picture of the latch? With relative sizes?

A main awning mfgr that is now out of business uses plastic end cover caps. I watched a man at a business incubator for a college make a new one with a 3-D printer. He said it is not a simple process. The old one had to be measured everywhere, then a program created so the printer knows what to do. He had about 20 plastic Yoda figurines sitting around of several colors and sizes to show what this printer is able to do_if the programmer knows how to design the program.
He said those 3 printers were only $11,000 ea.

I was surprised to learn there are now 3-D metal printers, and yes it's possible to make a gun.

I hope they don't have 3-D printers in prisons!

Why do they need printers? They have soap!

If you have one of those SMI Air Force One braking systems...then you may have been frustrated by the Velcro holding the LED reporting light strip coming off the rear view mirror...or forgetting to aim the back of the rear view mirror at your coaches rear facing camera. So, I 3d printed a bracket with a well to hold the LED strip light. I decided to use VHB tape just along the top, so I can remove the moulding and the light strip if needed.

based on all the great comments i’ve seen about this product, if i had a 3D printer i’d make some of these for our coach. the vendor no longer makes them or has plans to make them in the future.

Great idea...but probably wouldn't fit on most hobbiests 3d printing platform.

After having 3 of the closet door latches break in one weekend. Decided I needed a better solution.
Little design work and now have a spring loaded latch. Spring is from a clothes pin. Much sturdier and easier to operate. Still need to get a proper hinge bolt or may switch it to an 1/8” solid pin.

Love this thread. Thanx for sharing your ideas C.Martin (and others).
One of these days I will bite the bullet and learn how to CAD.
I designed my home in CAD, but that (I think) was an easier tool set.
I'll have to play. The 3D entry level printers are so cheap now,.
