My understanding is that these places exist under certain federal housing rules, that also cover 55+ apartments, etc. In the case of apartments, these rules allow the property owners to be exempt from some requirements that they must otherwise meet regarding play grounds, etc. I am not sure about 55+ trailer parks though. The federal regulation under which these exemptions are given, allow for up to about 15-20% of the residents to be under 55. Of course how flexible the individual place is will vary.

I am 51 and my wife is a good bit younger, and we stayed for a couple of nights at a 55+ RV park last year without any issue. My general impression about the place was it was really 55+ only for longer term residents.

Valuable info. You say you had no "issues", but did anyone ever so much as mention or ask your age?

No one ever asked my age when I was making reservations, or upon check in, though they did ask to see my ID when I paid by credit card at check in. The only way I was aware of the 55+ status was their web site, which mentions both 55+ and no guest under the age of 21. Though the 55+ part is only mentioned in their parts of the site dedicated to longer term guests.
