What to do when your Campground neighbors are too friendly?
What do you do when your Campground neighbors are too friendly?
1. Stay away from your RV as long as possible before going back to it?
2. Wear camouflage and sneak in and out of the RV?
3. Be outright rude and alienate them?
4. Smile and pretend to be deaf as they speak to you?
Let just say we've had some issues and need some suggestions.
Thanks everyone!

HHmm ... I'd say a combination of 3 & 4. In our travels, we try to be friendly to our neighbors, but it certainly sounds like your situation is worse.
We've had a few chatty neighbors in our travels over the last 1+ years and I understand where it can be uncomfortable. We ran into one couple that had just bought a used pop-up and had NO idea how to set it up, hook up water, light the furnace ... anything. Of course me, in my generally friendly nature, offered help when they asked and helped them get setup and in good shape. For me, when they asked to come take a tour of our coach, was where I think the line was crossed.
If you invite me into your coach great ... but I don't think the other way around is socially acceptable. I mean, do you walk up to the houses in your neighborhood and ask to take a look inside? Yes, I have found that in general RV'ers are a very friendly bunch, but my RV *is* my home when we're travelling. Maybe it's messy, maybe the dishes aren't done, maybe my dirty laundry is on the floor. In their defense, I don't think they were asking in a snoopy way - they just wanted to see something a step up from what they were travelling in. Believe me, I've seen some BEAUTIFUL rigs in our travels, struck up conversation with some owners, but never asked for a tour. BTW .. I got out of giving the tour as the DW was actually taking a nap, but that's beside the point.
So back to your question ... hhmm don't really have a good answer, but it sucks to have to come up with a way to avoid neighbors. Any chance of moving elsewhere in the campground?
Maybe they'll be heading out in the morning, and you can just sleep in late and miss their departure.
Good Luck!

We just suffer through them. What else can you do? We don't want to be rude to people but some are boring lonely chatter-boxes. I wish I had the answer.

Those type of people are just obnoxious and their to oblivious to the situation so you can't hardly insult them. I just tell them don't bother me in a very direct way that won't be mis-understood and don't worry about it. Haven't seen them before and don't want to see them again so it doesn't matter to me what they think or feel

I'm not rude but I make sure I don't leave any possibility that the friendly person leaves with the impression that their invitation was accepted either way.
It may explain why I don't have many friends.

Fix a meal that would choke a buzzard. Invite them over and that will do the trick.

You can take a dry erase marker and paint red dots all over your arms and face. Apply a few bandaids and set in you lawn chair and cough and wheeze a bit.

A large meal of beans, hard boiled eggs and a six pack of cheap beer usually takes care of them on day two.
For some reason, DW isn't around much either

Put on your best New Jersey accent and drop a bunch of F-Bombs.
Oh wait, that's what we do normally.

I just tell people that while I welcome conversations that are specific to a common subject, or is informative to either party, idle conversation is boring to me.
I then tell them quotes from others that I tend to live by. The first is from Ben Washington . . . "Speak not except to improve yourself or others, avoid trifling conversation." The second I am sorry I have forgot where it's origins sprang from but it goes . . "While conversation can enrich the understanding, silence it the school of genius."

I like laj's answer - it's what I would do. You don't want to see them again so why not.
This thread is excellent entertainment!

This is a tough one for me,as I am a social introvert. Very extraverted at work just not socially.
I tend to just put up with them assuming they are just lonely and need someone to talk to. When it's time for me to leave for work, dinner, etc.. I simply excuse myself.
Had a couple next to me at one park who shared way too much personal information (divorces, child custody, etc...) on day one, assume it made them feel better to get it off their chest.
The overly chatty ones always seem to be much older, retired for quite some time and have grown tired of only talking to each other. It makes me think of the line "As you are now I once was, as I am now you will be"
