What to use to record tv shows with dish
I have a tailgator dish and a dish wally receiver. I would like to get an inexpensive way to record tv through that system. I have looked at this but do not know if it would accomplish what I want.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/LAVA-DVR-...080p/525658828
If not, how about this:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Premium-S...rder/875788583
Would that work? If so, what do I need to hook it to my tv and dish receiver?
If not, what technology is out there?
Thanks

I'm not a Dish subscriber, but I think I recall reading that you can record by just plugging a USB drive into the back of your Wally.

I'm using an external hard drive that I bought with the Wally.
Dish has them for $99 but I think any large HD will work. Seen them for $59.

What to use to record tv shows with dish
Buy any small usb portable computer hard drive that’s smaller than I believe 2 TB . Pay a one time 40$ fee and record anything on dish. Also adds pause and rewind to your live tv watching. ( single tuner )

You may want to add the Dish OTA Adapter also. This lets you add available local over-the-air channels to the Dish guide. With that and the external hard drive you would be able to watch one channel, either OTA or satellite, while recording another, either OTA or satellite. The catch is that you can't record an OTA channel while watching another OTA channel, nor can you record a satellite channel while watching another satellite channel. Are you totally confused now?

I have learned through this that buying the right external hard drive is not that simple. There are several options and you have to be careful. What I wanted was a hard drive that could be used with a dish receiver and had a stand alone power source.
I ordered a stand alone power source but was not sure about whether the drive I selected would adapt to the power source. You ain't gonna believe this but it didn't. I got to send it back. After that, I searched and searched and searched some more.
Got fed up so I searched for a hard drive compatible with a wally. I found some and got one. Then I just searched for a power source.
here is what I got and I think it will work.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ustomerReviews
It is not the best available frankly, I was sick of searching. It it is not good enough, I will get another and eat the $100 plus cost.
I wonder if I could have gotten more than a 2 terabyte drive. Seems like to me I could have but again, I was tired of searching.

If it were me, I would just buy the Dish HD located here: https://www.dishformyrv.com/1-tb-dvr-upgrade-expansion/
Install a wireless Usb and OTA dongle and your set!
As for me, I am not willing to give them $40 to do this. So I take the Hopper 3 with us in the RV.

Truthfully , any cheap small usb hard drive seagate etc and I’ve never used power source other than the Wally/ 211 itself . I paid 59 bucks for a toshiba 1tb. It works great. No additional power needed !! Now if you have a large format drive that sucks power maybe , but I’ve not had an issue with Seagate and toshiba models I bought from Amazon.I know they say it needs outside power but it doesn’t ... I should have told you that earlier. Also 2 tb is the max the system can format so no you can’t go over that . The Wally will reformat the drive to its own proprietary system.
Re the fee The 40 bucks is a one time fee, account wide you can do it to as many wallys or 211’s you have on the account ... but I guess it is 40 bucks
