What was the last thing that broke?

Hoping to get a collection of things that break and cures for the same.

For me, everyone's favorite - the toilet. On my Thetford foot model, the ball valve is stuck open. In researching fixes, it sounds like there may be some calcium or other buildup on the ball valve (makes sense, lots of hard water) so once I get back to trying to fix it, I'll post what I did.

Our Jensen VR209TP (dash radio with touch screen) occasionally switches to a different input and other times the touch screen just doesn't work. I'm looking for a replacement.

Fixed my HWH when on propane. It worked on electric. It was broken when purchased but members here taught me what to check and $23 later, I replaced the solenoids. I love fixing things myself.

40 inch Vizo TV died last night. Slow death - first remote range got shorter and shorter. Then channels started getting bad video, sound and finally blue screen with no signal message. Will try some impact engineering today before trashing it.

Had 2 minor issues on last trip both repaired now.

The ice maker would let water run into the ice tray resulting in a large block of frozen ice and water. Problem was the solenoid valve wasn't closing completely. Checked on replacing with the Norcold valve for ~$45 (would be the 3rd time) but instead bought the cheapest one on Ebay and made it work $13.

My One Touch awning has been having a continual problem of not working, have to get a ladder out or go on roof and take the connector apart and put back together. This has been a PITA since we've owned the coach. Finally took the connector off and modified it and hardwired the awning. The connector was not available through Care Free of Colorado, I asked what they currently do and they hardwire the awnings. Sometime simple is better. Cost $0.25.

BTW, last year was a nightmare, had to replace radiator and exhaust manifold, almost ready to throw in the towel but last 3 trips minor issues.

April, May, and June have been full of opportunities. In April, when we left Houston, TX, the generator would not stay running more than a minute. Stayed an extra day to have it repaired. Finally on our way, the engine died on LA 15 (2 lanes with a 2 foot shoulder) a few miles from Marksville, LA. Amber check engine light came on and then engine died. Called CoachNet. Their representative was great. The CoachNet RV tech diagnosed the problem as a fuel issue. Said if it would restart, ok to drive a short distance. Whew, it started. Made it to Marksville and later to Timmons Truck Center in Alexandra, LA for repair. Not too bad. Algae had clogged the filters and gave a high fuel pressure code. A little over $500 and problem solved, all engine codes updated, and I learned a little more about RVing.

Back in Marksville making ready to leave for Duson, LA, generator started, sputtered, and died. Made an appointment with Billy Thibodeaux’s Premier RV in Scott, LA to look at the levelers and just added this to the list. Got the work done in May. Leveler’s had a dirty ground (may be common issue with a Spartan chassis). Let Billy perform the full annual maintenance on the generator. Last filter change was April 2012. Note, we have owned this coach, our first RV ever, 14 months. Also had him look at the steering collar since Spartan issued a recall for my coach. No cracks but Spartan will still replace. Needed a starting point for my maintenance and also had the chassis inspected with engine fluid service. I noticed Billy had a sign that said, “We will not touch a tire over 7 years old”.

My June purchase is a set of tires that will be installed tomorrow.

I hope to spend the rest of June enjoying the journey. Getting an RV education is fun. It is sometimes expensive too. I do learn something every time I write a check.
