No, last night was the first time I've noticed this but that is a good option to diagnose. Thanks.

Maybe the power was out for awhile and you did not know it. Drew the batteries down and when power came back on started charging.

Unfortunately, due to current conditions, that is not a possibility. We were home all evening from dinnertime, on. Watching reruns of HGTV. <<sigh>> Thanks.

10 Amperes is not a 'big load' in the grand scheme of things but what makes it seem big, I guess, is that we RVers become keenly aware of electricity use and try to minimize it.

I'm with the folks that are pointing to your inverter/charger and batteries. Next time you see this, physically turn off your inverter/charger and see if the load goes away.

I agree. I'm only that "keenly aware" because of a furnace issue and the freaking Michigan "Spring" where I've had to run two space-heaters and the electric fireplace all month. Every time one of those kicks on, it's about 11 or 12 amps.

I will definitely check the inverter/battery status if/when there is a next time. Thanks.

Sounds like the electric water heater was running and you power cycled it when it was hot enough to stay off. It uses 12v for the contols, and 1500w element is about 12.5 amps

This may sound strange but when I am sitting and have my Aladdin system on monitoring everything it creates a 10 amp load I can see on my Magnum readout above the door. I guessing it is inverter load. Turn the Aladdin off and it goes away

That's a very real possibility. Next time it happens, I'll remember to check the PCI display to see if it's using power. Thanks.

I just got home off a 2 month trip in my new to me Newmar Essex, I noticed my electric load spike up on occasion and every time my inverter was in charge mode. I was also continuously plugged in. I have noticed the same on my Country Coach Affinity. I think what happens is your system goes into float mode then if the batteries drop below a specific level it will kick into charge mode to top off the batteries. I guess it depends on the size of your battery bank that determines how long it takes to top off. It could take an hour or more. My thoughts as this is what I experienced with my most recent two coaches. This is the simplified version of what I think you may be experiencing.

Is the tv powered by the inverter ? If so then you would not know if the power was out. Just a suggestion was all.

Good point. I've not had that happen yet where we lost power and the inverter kicked in!

While I was working on my computer today, I was periodically checking and sure enough, it happened again, with nothing else on. I checked the PCI display and it showed the water heater using zero amps, but then I hit the button to turn it off and *poof* the amps went down to under one! Tapped it back on and right back over 12! That must be the culprit. Didn't realize how quietly water gets heated!!!
