Whats best

We are wanting to RV to California from Colorado Springs in Feb. or March. We like to stay at RV camp sites, vs boondocking. So my question is making reservations and having to be on time, vs hoping they have a spot because your taking your time and relaxing. This will be our 1st major trip in the RV, So any other pointers are welcome..Thanks

Almost all of the RV campgrounds at which we've stayed honor the first night's reservation, even if you get there after midnight, so having a booked (& payed for) place to stay is worth the effort for us.

It is best to call the campground if you will be getting there after dinner time. Some campgrounds have a gate. Sometimes you will need a Camp host to guide you to your spot, so it's courteous to call.

..."enjoying ourselves and taking our time".....now that is an interesting concept.....the Western US might a tad busy this winter with all the flood and hurricane damage in FL and TX....probably should make your reservations early and plan on getting to your campgrounds on time [smile]....

It's always good to call in the afternoon if you are going to arrive later in the day or evening. Just to make sure they have not "forgotten" that you are coming. You can also find out what time they close the check-in office. Be sure to ask if there are any gate codes, bathroom codes or wifi passwords.

Most places put this info on a check-in sheet that they leave for late arrivals. A few places we've been do not do this. Then you have to beg someone to give you the bathroom code or wifi password. not fun....

The time you are travelling is early in the season. You might want to make sure the parks your are going to are open. Some parks in colder areas close for the winter. This should not be a problem in California or Arizona.

Regards,

Jerry
