What's your towing experience with each truck manufacturer?

Out of the big 5. Ford, Chevy/GMC, Dodge, Nissan, and Toyota. How much weight? What type of road? Flat, mountainous, etc.

When you ask for towing experience, what exactly are you looking for? 1/2 ton; 3/4 ton; 1 ton; larger; 5th wheel; travel trailer; pop up; work experience; farm experience? Are you just looking for general or specific information?

Once upon a time I towed a 42' Toy hauler. the 5th wheel weighed in at 19k. pulled it with a 1 ton Chevy Duramax dually. Live in Florida but had it in the mountains. Got 9.5 mpg towing if I remember right most days, It was big, handled great, pulled well. I added a 42 gal auxiliary tank to extend the fuel stops. Problem was at the end of the day the 5th wheel was not for me so I sold it and the truck and went back to a class A.

Your towing experience will be good if you have the right truck for the load and it will be awful if you don’t. First determine your load and then get more truck than you need and you will be fine. Personal preference determines brand.

Ram has the best exhaust brake, other than that they have all been good.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I've always been a Ford guy. We pulled a 36' 5er for 10 years with a Ford F250 PSD.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

With several years experience (and growing up in a wrecker), they all tow about the same.
Sorry, I just had to do it....

Have close to 55 yrs of towing......
Farm tractors/field trailers

Vans towing travel trailers
Small pickups towing pop-ups
Pickups towing boats/work trailers
Pickups towing large travel trailers and large 5th wheels

ALL have been good experiences....except for that van/travel trailer set up (van suspension too soft/trailer too long/NO WDH!!!!----wrong on all accounts)

For the last 25 years or so I've had several three-quarter ton Chevy Duramax's as daily drivers and tow vehicles. And at the moment I full-time and have a 2007 three-quarter ton GMC Duramax, which of course is basically the same thing as the Chevy, pulling my 2013 Arctic Fox 27 – 5L fifth wheel. I lived in the Colorado mountains before I went full-time so a lot of my towing was up and down hill.

The fact that I've had that many General Motors trucks I believe is a testament to the kind of service that I've gotten out of my trucks. And if I have to buy another truck it will be another GMC Duramax.

Your question has too many variances. Any truck would work depending on what size RV you have.

The best thing to do if you're buying both a truck and RV is to buy the RV you want and then match the truck to it.

I can't answer your question since I will only pull with a Ram Cummins Diesel Engine truck now.

I had an F250 PSD, then a 1500 Ram gasser, now a 3500HD Duramax Chevy. Both the diesels were exceptional, the poor Ram although well within specs wasn't a great towing experience.

That said, I don't consider "Big 5" that much, as Nissan and Toyota once you get past 1/2 tons they're not players, and they're also-rans in the 1500 space.
