wheel bearing torque procedure

Occasionally this subject arises and many shade tree methods are suggested, or just because that's they way they learned.

This is the recommended method of installing and torquing MH wheel bearings by STEMCO.

Yup, it is step #7 that most shade tree mechanics can't do, as it requires a dial indicator and adapter to check end-play.

Which wheel bearings???

Dexter Trailer wheel bearings use a different procedure
Drum type....50 ft/lbs/loosen then finger tight/back off until cotter pin can be inserted (No rotation)
E-Z Lube type....50 ft/lbs/loosen then finger tight/back off until nut retainer can be snapped in place (No rotation)
Nev0R-Lube type....145-155 ft/lbs no other adjustments

Best to check MFG bearing instructions for proper torque

Thanks for prompting me to edit my title post for clarity. I assumed since both documents refer to HDT axles they would be clearly for MH's.
