Wheel Covers on RV's

Either way I bought covers for mine just to be sure in case at some point in time I wanted to use them.

If you put covers on your wheels you don't have to polish them as often because no one sees them.

I use 303 protection and the covers. I have Michlin tires and they recommend covering the tires to protect them from the UV rays. The 303 helps protect them but also cleans them so its easier to inspect them.

Covers are cheap protection. Maybe you only get one more year because of them then you are still ahead of the game. My six tires will probably cost me about $3,000 to replace ( If not more ) 22.5 size tires. That becomes $428 per year for 7 years. If I get one more year by investing $50 then it's worth it. Not to mention saving me from a blow out! I don't put them on just stopping foa a day or two, but if it's a week they are on!

Buzz,

I'm interested in the subject of tire covers. Please guide me to the Michelin web site that recommends covering your tires for protection of UV rays.

I was told by a tire man if you are covering your tires they need to 100% covered. UV rays don't stop at the front of the tire, UV rays travel through all things. Michelin & Goodyear say tires protected from UV and don't need to cover. Could be they want to sell tires. We don't and have not had a problem.

I did a test using white covers.
The white side of the RV measured 85 F in the shade & 107 in direct sun
The white cover in direct sun 98
Tire under the cover 99
Tire with no cover in direct sun 136

Chemical reactions (tire aging) rate in general doubles every 20 degrees increase.

If I am at a campground for more than a full day I cover the tires that will get the most sun.

if we are parked for a week, i put em on.
if for a just a few days, i don't bother.

to me they help keep the wheels cleaner longer, its a pet peeve for me to have my wheels looking brand new all the time, its a sickness i just cant kick

I agree with Gary.
Leave them uncovered and replace at 7 years.

I cover mine and replace at 10 years.
A set of 6 now cost say $2,800
7 years = $400 a year
10 years=$280 a year
Your choice cover or not.

Interesting, how many times have you done the 10 year replacement?

Since my warrenty is normally for five years I usually change out my tires about that time. I had two blowouts with 6 year old tires in one six month period and it was not convenient. I also use TST tire pressure monitors. I do not user covers,

I feel is for show. Make the outside of the RV look better. If that the case for UV let put cover on our car while is park, LOL
