When You Gotta Go, You Gotta Go

Many motorhome owners purport that an advantage of having a motorhome is that you can use the bathroom while driving. Travel trailer owners often respond that it’s unsafe for passengers in a motorhome to visit the Can while the motorhome is in motion. So, Trailer owners feel that’s not a motorhome advantage because, for safety, you should pull over to accommodate bathroom necessities, and that it only takes a couple of minutes more to get to the bathroom in a travel trailer. We’re just wondering here if travel trailer owners have ever felt inconvenienced by needing to pull over for a potty break. Also wondering what percentage of motorized owners feel no fear in toileting at 65 mph.

Humor is more than welcome.

We have our bladders trained.......2 hours after departure look for Rest Area/Pull out etc

Then good for rest of trip which is only another 3 hours before we stop

Besides the potty break I need to get out walk around/stretch.

*Keep your hand/feet inside while in motion and butts planted in your seat

My wife will hit the can while we’re driving…….. TT owners say it’s unsafe, because they can’t do it. We don’t need seat belts on our [Mod Edit]…….

Half bath is 20 feet away...I hit cruise control and hit the head! Kidding of course. We use it underway all the time. The real question is do you pull over to swap drivers?

When I had a motorhome last year, it was a convenience to be able to use the bathroom/sinks or able to get snacks/drinks. Also the dogs could relax way better then in my truck.

Now I have a TT and wish I had the leg room with 2 babies, the wife and shepherds in my truck.

My grandpa had a ‘48 Packard. When he took us on long trips, we saw he had cut a hole in the floorboard near the brake pedal, through which he routed a hose connected to a funnel. I asked “Grandpa, what’s that funnel and hose for?” He answered “You’ll know when you’re my age.”

More than just the bathroom. Microwave, refrigerator, air frier, coffee maker, sink, vanity, television, playstation, etc etc.

One of my favorite statements. “Honey please make me a sammich while you’re up”.

These are risks we’re willing to take sometimes in light traffic and good roads.
But the largest percentage of time she is belted in her seat or the couch.
I ask her to come sit in the front with me when roads get more dangerous.

Many years ago we were visiting my aunt and uncle in Alaska, traveling from Anchorage to Fairbanks in their class A. My aunt was up and about fixing lunch and my X was in the head when my uncle hit an ice-hezve at about 60 or so. Lunche went flying and my X had quite a surprise. Noone one was hurt, but some cleanup was required.

As a current TT owner but previous Class C & A owner, I would say there is risk and convenience in using the head while in motion, but this would not be my priority in choosing between one or the other.

We both drive the motorhome and both of us have gotten up to use the bathroom or to get drinks or snacks. We would never use the sofa or the bed.... always back to the passenger seat & belted up. This is only done on a non-traffic, secondary, straight highway. It would not be done on an busy interstate except perhaps in west Texas of I-10 in New Mexico... straight and some desolate country out there.

When I was younger I worked for a company that moved and sometimes reposesed well drilling equipment. The boss would send a whole crew by buss to Repo and bring back all the equipment. Most all of the TrailWays busses were equipped with a head. I would always take the non stop bus if at all possible. I also used to drink a little in those days. So Yes, I used the head while in motion. Busses at that time did not have seatbelts either. DR

Operational Risk Management is key. Safety is a word used by those that never really do anything requiring even minimal risks.

Easy stretch of road...get up and use the advantages of a motor home. (have had boat types RVs and there is no comparison for some conveniences).

Like all things, using one's brain has it's advantages. Sweeping statements are rarely accurate for those in the better half of a bell curve.
