In larger dealerships there is a used inventory manager who looks at incoming rigs and decides whether he can re-sell them a a nice profit. Mostly that means fairly late models of popular brands or types. If yes, he "buys" that rig from the New RV sales manager, though not necessarily at the price shown as the trade-in value in your contract. If he doesn't want it to re-sell, then the new RV sales manager wholesales it to somebody else via a vehicle auction or maybe to some other sales lot. In smaller dealerships, the new sales guy and the used RV guy may be the same person, but the the process is the same. Keep the better ones and wholesale the rest. Whatever yields the most profit.

I bought a repo. It was consigned by the local bank to Darren Bideaux RV in Ogden Utah. They were going into the second winter with this rig on the lot. They were asking $98,900 and it booked well above $100k. It was filthy and neglected, but no signs of abuse, like slashed walls or broken glass. Everything worked as best I could tell. I am pretty mechanical. I offered $52,000 out the door. They called back three days later and took the deal. I paid $4,600 for a warranty, bumper to bumper, zero deductible, 5 year.
