I am in a similar situation. Here in New York I was told to go to a large truck inspection garage. I have the paper work from where the last owner took it and I plan on going back to the same place.

It depends on the size. I took both my old and newer unit to a regular shop. I think if its below 26,000#'2 any shop can do it. CW had done a HD inspection but it doesn't need that.

The proper way to inspect would be up on a lift. I dont know what your state requires but the inspections I have done are with the rig supported by the axles on a lift high enough to walk under.

Having lived in NC for 18 years just take it to your regular inspection station where you bring your car. The place I went to just checked the lights, wipers etc. - they did not put it up on a lift. The inspection station was in a very small rural town and did not have a lift large enough to put our motorhome on.

I also live in NC and am faced with annual inspection.

Up until this year my local Merchants Tire facility did my inspection but this year they said the rules have changed and they could not inspect it unless they could get it inside.

Fortunately there is a Quality Brake outlet here in Cary that does large commercial vehicle repairs so they will do the inspection.

Inspections are a 'money grab' when a vehicle that is only a year old with minimal mileage needs to be 'inspected'

I got the same thing going in New York. Mine is up in April, for the 1st time since we bought it last year. Too far to go to the dealer, just for that.

I believe the cut off in NY is 18,000 lbs. If your inspection sticker is on the front bumper than you need to go to a heavy vehicle inspection station. Not all inspection station can do it. I'm looking for someone in SW NYS.

I take mine to the local Ford truck center. They have the ability to work on motorhomes and large trucks. I get an oil change, and inspection sticker for $48.00
The local rv dealer wants 129.00 just for the oil change!

We are only required to have them inspected when the ownership changes hands. One I had done at a truck center, the other was done at a large bus company where a friend works. They have many buses, and have their own mechanics. The buses need inspected on a regular basis.

In NC the safety inspection is $13.60 with $12.75 going to the inspection station and a whole wopping $0.85 going to DMV and part of that is split off to rescue squads in the county where the inspection was done.

Portville Truck is a heavy inspection station. Or because I’m closer, i use I-86 Truck & Auto in Falconer. They do my underside upgrades, tire and PM work. They are super awesome. Tell them Trolley sent you.
