Which A/C units are the quietest

Looking at replacing both my AC/heat pump units. Currently have Dometic Duotherms and they are loud.

Which make/model units are the quietest. If you changed your units are the newer ones quieter?

Thanks in advance for comments.

Jim, I can't answer that question, but I put the Wacko silencers on both Penguin II units and reduced the noise by 6db!

Coleman 10Q series is also supposed to be quieter.

Try to distinguish between air duct noise and a/c compressor noise. Often most of the noise comes from the fan striving to push air thru a poorly designed duct system. Changing the rooftop unit probably won't fix that. Sometimes obstructions in the ducting can be altered or removed.

My previous 2004 American Tradition (Coleman Mach heat pumps) placed an electrical box right in front of the return air intake, blocking about 40% of it. Really dumb, but no practical way to relocate it either, because they had totally boxed in the ceiling opening. The Eagle model, on the other hand, had a fancy ceiling plenum that placed the wiring box off to the side where it didn't block the flow as badly and it was much quieter.

I've seen some DIY to create dual curved output plenum . There is a company making plastic ones if I remember right were the AR like $300 each. They have priced these way out practical range IMHO for a like to have plastic upgrade part.
No to be confused with it Wacko that makes a silencer cover as well I breezed through responded it may have been mentioned.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess there's no magic bullets.

Depending on temps we will run the front AC at night, close the vents up there and it can keep the bedroom cool.

During the day if it hot we'll run the front AC on low speed and the bedroom AC on high. If we can get by with running the rear AC on high we do that also.

That is one of the reasons we bought this MH with a basement air conditioner. It can barely be heard running inside the coach.

If we buy a newer MH with roof units I'll spend the money for the wacko products.

A +1 here for the Wacko grilles. The big thing they get you to do is foil tape gaps and seal things properly. We gained 3db, which does not sound like a lot, but we no longer have to adjust the tv volume when the A/C cycles on/off. Easy install and they work.

The grease on the fan bearings dries out after a few seasons. Get real noisy. Only fix is to replace the motor.
Also close the vents closest to the fan. Make sure the duct work is not obstructed.

I have actually got a confined area camera on order with 5M of semi ridgid cable so I can inspect my ducts. Supposed to be delivered to day. Not sure what options there are if there are problems but at least I'll know if I have problems. I know when I was working on installing heat pads on my water tanks I found a mouse hole in one of the small furnace ducts going to the bedroom/bathroom. I'll check all duct work.

Actually 3 db less sound volume is about half as loud since the decibel scale is logarithmic. Me thinks I'll have to check into Wacko grilles.
