Which atlas

Time for a new atlas. Which north America atlas do you suggest. I prefer spiral, because it lays flat

Welcome to the site
My preference is the Michelin. While the formt does take a little getting used to, it does seem to have better road definition then the usual. A big plus is that it is spiral bound and is printed on some tough paper.

This is one expensive map! What makes it so over priced is my question?

Yeah, that's one jacked-up price....even with every page being laminated.

I also had a trucker's atlas, but didn't get a spiral bound one. I think it was under $20 & was by Rand McNally.

If you stay in individual states a lot I'd highly recommend the Benchmark series of road atlases. They're awesome! Easy to read; shows gravel roads for ease of 4-wheeling; shows public lands; public campgrounds; attractions. We used them all the time.

It was 63 bucks when we purchased it 10 months ago.

2020 addition is all over eBay for $40 and under. It is excellent.

Just found this review. This is why the price is so high. I'm finding more and more that Amazon is price gouging. Guess Jeff needs the money?

Verified Purchase
My husband is a truck driver and I thought a updated map would be a good Christmas present. Being a high risk senior citizen I did all my shopping on Amazon. I made the mistake of not researching this map before buying it. The price $71.79 is $40 more than ordering it direct from Rand McNally, or purchasing it in a truck stop. Quality is good, but felt price was taking advantage of any Amazon user. Next time I will do my research first. Can't blame the seller as I didn't do my due diligence.

We buy one of these every other year. Wal Mart and Target have them for the same price.

Rand McNally truckers atlas is my primary. Also have a FMCA atlas that has campgrounds in it.

Apparently my local Wal Mart no longer carries highway atlases! Never thought I'd see the day.

I'm no Luddite; I use Google Maps and all, but I can't give up my paper maps. It's just impossible to get a broad enough view of everything on a phone screen.

I totally agree with you.... will never give up a paper map. In fact, I've been known to study a map for hours and not even planning to go anywhere. If it's a large scale state map there are so many interesting details on maps. Trying to plan a trip on a GPS or Google is impossible for me because I want to go the way I want to go. I need to see the whole picture to decide what I want to see enroute.

BTW... our Wal Mart has atlases back by the auto servicing dept. Try there. They used to have them up front by the check-outs.
