Why did you buy your RV?

Bought the first RV for motocross. Previously, I would do some overnight camping in the motorcycle enclosed trailer putting screen over the drop down door. A few years later, Girlfriend at the time liked the races, but hated waking up early to get to them. So, the Class A RV would be driven to the track before the event. Then, work asked me to move. Girlfriend stayed.

The RV became the residence while building the sticks and bricks. It got pretty trashed as it was a three season RV, older, and I sold it cheap just to get rid of it.

Years later, married and kids. Bought the second RV and started taking a few trips. Restored that RV through it's ownership. Got tired of being last in the pack of our friend's RVs so decided to buy a DP.

Bought the third RV as a salvage wreck. Restored that and took a few good trips with the family. The kids are getting where they would rather be home with their friends so the RV didn't get used at all this year (sigh...). Maybe next year!!! Or I am going on trips by myself (gosh darn it!)

Well, in another life I did a lot of duck and goose hunting here in Texas. Always had a good hunting dog (Always a Labrador). I retired in 2015, and thou I gave up duck and goose hunting, I still did a lot of dove hunting. Well, my 4 legged partner got old and passed in 2015, and I decided to replace her with my bucket list dog, which is a high quality pedigree Labrador with professional obedience training. That worked out good, except the trainer got me going to AKC and HRC hunt tests, where you test your dog against a standard for retrieving ducks and earn ribbons, points and titles. After 2 years of spending countless weekends at hunt tests and hotels all over Texas and La, I got my 21 foot RV, used at a great price. I loved spending the weekends at the hunt tests, but hated staying at the cheep hotels. Over half the hunt tests allow handlers to boondock with their RV at the hunt test site, either for free or a small charge. And if not, there was always a RV park nearby. So I cut my expenses to less than half, and found out that I really like RVing. So, my dog has her Hunting Retriever Champion Title with HRC, and we have one Master Pass in AKC, and I'm having a blast. I decked out my little RV with Solar and can boondock with the best of them, and found a new hobby. Last year, I did a 6000 mile round trip from Texas to Seattle Washington, and got in 3 different weekend hunt tests along the way. And got to visit family in Denver on the way home. What a deal!

Wife and I do Art Shows. We create sculptures out of metal. About 8 years ago, we decided to do multiple shows in Florida and Gulf Coast during the Winter season. Cost of hotels was prohibitive, plus we don't particularly like staying in hotels. My wife and I can cook better than most restaurants we've run into so an RV appealed to us. Bought a tow behind since I already had the F-350. We couldn't use a fiver because we needed a place to carry our work/show setup. Then graduated to the Dutch Star. Now tow a GMC Canyon, and soon a F150. Love sleeping in our own bed, cooking in our own space. Many shows allow us to dry camp at the show for free, or can camp in a nearby campground. Nice to be able to walk to the coach and have lunch while the other half runs the booth. Plus we can travel with our three cats. Now looking at getting a trawler and cruising part of the year, and working part of the year. We're not seeing a whole lot of reason to keep the stick and brick . . .

Our cross country RV travel started in the later '70's with TC's after tenting, canopies, etc. around WV and some of the surrounding areas.

In '73 I finished school at 32 years old with a wife and three kids. Not long after that we moved to the west coast. After making several trips from the west coast to the east coast and back with various non-campers I decided it would be much easier with a camper. We bought the first of those in the late '70's and have had one until our first MH several years ago.

Our primary reason for having one was to make a coast to coast trip every year to visit friends and family, but having one also allowed us to visit parks and other places we wanted to see along the way. We would take northern, central, or southern routes across the country depending on what we wanted to see. A RV also worked well for hunting and fishing trips as well as just exploring locally in OR. We also spent up to a week through the 80's and 90's at the EAA convention at Oshkosh, WI.

From the late '70's until now there have only been two years that we didn't go coast to coast with a RV. One of those years we went to AK, and the other we took the boat to the San Juan islands in WA.

For a short time, a year or two, we also had an Aspen tent trailer that I could pull with the Tracker, Metro, and bike, but it wasn't nearly as convenient as the hard side campers so we sold it.

While I was working we used a month of my vacation time for the trip, after retiring in '94 we stayed as long as we wanted to wherever we wanted to.

Having RV's has been wonderful and has allowed us to do things we could only dream of doing without them.

Thanks Ray so far only 7 like I said (LOL) a lot more parks to go.The journey continues.

To travel, winter home, and have dogs with us. We had no idea where we would want a 2nd home so being able to move made sense. Also lots of places to travel to and having the dogs limits auto and air travel unless we have them watched for extended time periods.

Been a good choice so far.
