Why not draw latch propane tank covers? For easier access.
I'm looking into getting a tongue box for my TT. And there's limited space between the propane tank and RV front.
People have reported success getting a toolbox in there but mention it makes it hard to get the tank covers off.
Why not drill out the rivets and hold the cover shut with flexible draw latches? Then you can pull the front of the cover off and tilt the tanks slightly forward to remove them.
I think you could get away with 4, attached where I've indicated in red. If you really needed additional "reinforcement" you could place 2 more where I've indicated in yellow.
If you're not familiar with flexible draw latches I've attached pics of those too.
PS I think a DIY or Mods forum would be beneficial around here.

Because I had a Stromberg-Carlson rack above my tanks, I had to remove the cover side-ways. I replaced the rivets on mine with small bolts/nyloks so I could do kind of what you say. If I recall correctly, I think I used three small bolts per side.
I think it is a great idea. If offered as a retro-fit, I would have made the purchase.

There are lots of things you can do on an RV to make it more useful. But the RV manufacturers build these on the basis of cheap cost, not convenience for the end user.
