Window Film?
There is a product called Gila Titanium Heat Control Window Film out there that is used to control temps in windows. I have seen on other forums that some folks have used this stuff and have had good result in lowering cabin temps in hot and unshaded environments. Anyone here use it? Did you use the adhesive type or the static clean type? Looks like it is a fairly low-skill do it yourself type project.

I put it in all my windows and storm door in our sticks and bricks house this late spring. We think it helped a lot. Gets upper 90s here in mid missouri. I put the pemanant type on. Considering doing the motor home while we are in tucson for the winter.

My solution is simple. Just use standard auto shades. Less expensive and unlike the solar film it won't peel off all the time. Plus you can take them out of the window anytime you want and they provide great privacy in the RV park where neighbors seem just a little to close. As long as you have a good rooftop AC, I have found this to work great.

"Did you use the adhesive type or the static clean type?" I used the adhesive type. It has a slight gold tint to it and works good. I had it in the bedroom and removed it and put in limo tint. Sleep in longer in the morning!

I didn't use the product you referred to, but I installed 20% film (blocks 80% light and 99% IR) on my windows in my old 2001 Mirada several years ago. BIG, BIG DIFFERENCE..
I was very concerned about optical quality, but after installing on a test window, I was happy with the quality so decided to do all the windows (except windshield ). Heres a short article .
Window tint and window covers – 2001 Coachmen Mirada 300QB
Mine was the adhesive type, fairly easy to install.. I bought a 100ft roll, I still have a lot left over and plan on installing it in my 1999 Southwind this winter (project while snowbirding in AZ)
I'm also looking for some 70% or 80% to install on the windshield and front side windows.

Wow... thanks for the link and great write up. I am excited to start the project but have one question:
OK, cut the film to be installed slightly larger than the window. Once you have it positioned on the window, what is the last step to trim it to fit the window?

Look into 3M Crystalline before you pull the trigger. Expensive.....but effective.

I used a razor knife to cut it to fit. The first window I did, the "test" window had some bubbles in it and the trim was a little rough. BY the time I got to the last window, no bubbles, and the trim was perfect.
I just bought a small roll (40 inches x 10 ft) of 70% Ceramic 2 ply. I'll do one of the small overhead windows first as a test. If I'm happy with the optical quality, I'll do the windshield and two side windows this winter while I'm in AZ..

Any ceramic film or above is good. I use it on all my vehicles and always do the windshield.

My Installer said there were no issues. In the past there used to be due to the window film and the gases they used in between the panes. YMMV though and I would recommend spending time making sure!! Risk is def worth the reward for me.

Be careful with any tint/reflective film installed on the inside of double pane windows. They can cause a significant heat buildup between the panes and cause the seals to fail prematurely.

The 3M product looks like the best stuff but is insanely expensive. Went with the stuff Waiter21 recommended. Will see how DIY works. Need all the help I can get taking cabin temps down some; we will be camping in mid-August when temps will likely be triple digit again and no sure bet finding a shaded spot. Thanks!
