Windshield Protection for Driving on Dirt Roads

We have a Honda Fit that we tow behind our Class A 31 Foot Winnebago Vista. We have a Blue Ox hitch and have purchased a KarGard to protect the front of the Fit when we are towing on dirt roads. I'm interested in getting some additional protection for the windshield, and was hoping for recommendations.

I know you can buy windshield covers for snow/frost protection, but am not sure they would stay on the Fit while driving.

Take a look at this....I use something similar to protect the paint on my toad when towing. Just apply over the windshield and remove when you arrive. Wad it up and throw it away.

Do you have a full size flap on the rear of your motorhome? They are known to throw rocks. We didn't have one and never got any hood or windshield damage on our toad. On our trip to Alaska we saw folks removing those big flaps & they showed us a layer of rock at the base of their windshield. Stiff, behind the wheel flaps are all that's needed. Also, the window coverings gather grit and dust & when you remove them you'll see the effects.... same as a front 'bra' for motorhomes.

Same product as carpet protector IMO and about the same price range.
Thanks for the idea!

Remove the Ad Flap on the MH to eliminate rock damage. Took mine off 5 years ago and have had no problem on gravel.

Did you take one of Fantasy RV tours to Alaska or Adventure Caravan RV tours? If so, wondering on those trips how much do you drive on gravel and are you able to spread out enough to avoid the front of your coach getting all nicked up from the guy your following.

Ray.....a long time ago, I tried the carpet protector.....it was too sticky and didn't come off well. I now use a product called Road Wrap, it comes in narrow pieces and covers just the painted area I want covered. It stays on well, but comes right off, even in high heat.

After flying rocks from a passing vehicle going the opposite direction cost me a new windshield I bought one of these. Been using it for 6 years now. Straps go inside the vehicle through the door jamb area so it is quick on and off and very secure, unlike most of the "snow protectors" that are not made to be used in motion.

We went on our own both times. The road construction areas can be very long... like a gravel road. Everyone drives the same roads. Sometimes the big semis come by fast from the opposite direction which really flies the rocks. We just pulled over as far as we could and came to a stop until they past.

It's not only an issue on gravel roads. One rainy day driving through Salt Lake City I began watching RVs with toads traveling in the opposite direction. Those with the flaps had a spray of water arcing over their hood. Those without the flaps had the water aiming at the tires. That clinched it for us.

When I flat towed the Jeep Wrangler, I used a yoga mat for the Jeep windshield. It's thin enough that the door frame will secure it and it doesn't flap around. Easy to install and remove and clean up.

For the grill and radiator, I took an old Harley Davidson electra glide windshield and wedged in the grill slats. Some strategically placed strips of gorilla tape protected the grill slat paint.
