Windshield Replacement

I'm driving down Route 93 from Kingman, AZ. to Las Vegas, NV. when a semi threw a stone and hit the split windshield making a good sized pit. Over the summer it's been okay but seriously boiling out, now it cooled down it ran a crack going both ways. 3" one side, 6" the other way. They won't fix it, saying I need replacement. They quoted me $1089.00 approximately. My insurance is $500.00 deductible because of the year of my m.h. It is a very nice and reliable 1995 Class A 30' Fourwinds. I wish I would of remembered the pit in the windshield, unfortunately it didnt come to my attention again until wash and wax day. I really dont have the money right now. Any temp solutions? Is the price in the proper range? If you had one installed did you have problems afterward? Look forward to responses.

We had the front passenger split window replaced in April from a rock on that same road going to Vegas. No problems so far. Total cost was $1250 less our ded with GEICO. Safelite took care of everything.

Progressive took care of ours in February. Drivers side cracked by lawnmower in Washington State RV Park which of course denied responsibility. Progressive had it replaced at our house in under 2 hours. No leaks and zero deductible on our 2004 Itasca Horizon 40AD.

$1089 is a good price.

Had my drivers side replaced several months ago...about $1,400. I always make sure I have windshield coverage as I had one replaced back in 2005 too.

$50 deductible on my policy.

There are a handful of states where windshields and sometimes side glass is replaceable at no cost to the policy holder. Kentucky is one of those states. I had a windshield replaced this spring due to a crack, and I never saw a bill. Very smooth process.

Price sounds about right for a half windshield. And no, there is no shortcut repair to avoid that.

You should have got the truck tag or Id information and contacted them immediately to make a damage claim. Hard to do that now, so I guess you are stuck.

No trucking company I know will accept responsibility, they consider it a road hazard.

Has anyone ever tried windshield protection film like this???

Pete,

Who replaced your windshield?. We are in Lexington and a long crack on the driver's side occurred during a recent trip.

Glass Replacement

Had mine replaced twice with RV Glass solutions. They handled the insurance and were extremely helpful. Great company to work with.

I have Progressive Insurance and just filed a claim today. They use Safelite as their claim handler but the service will go through “Duncan Systems Motorhome” out of Elkhart, IN for the actual replacement. I’ve not received a call back from them yet to see where or how long it will take to get repaired.

My insurance company also used Duncan and I was impressed at how efficiently they handled getting the galss and shipping it to my installer. Several phone calls kept me "in the loop" and after the glass was installed they called me and asked how the entire process went.

Windshield Replacement

Have you ever tried addressing the issue when it’s just a divot in the glass. You can buy windshield repair kits from any auto parts store and fill the divot ASAP. I’ve only had 1 epoxy repair travel after filling it. Although it was quite nasty to start with but lasted a long time before any serious cracking or traveling happened. Just a thought but the savings is well worth a $10 kit. I just on mine as soon as I can get to the store.
