Enjoy the GNR! We've been to approx 14 of them and had a ball! (Actually ran the Sign Crew for 5 years setting up and tearing down). Should you take your tad - yep! Lotsa things to see and do. doc hit it on the head about the Surf. But, if you're only going to the rally and not to tge pre-rally also you may not have much free time - so attend the ptre-rally also.
Regarding hose, there is a water spigot at the end of each row, so everyone connects their hoses to get to the middle coach. You the fill your tank and run off the water pump. So when someone asks 'Do you need water?' the answe is always YES, even if you really don't - you don't want to need water tomorrow.
Again - enjoy. Take advantage of the seminars, teh entertainment, and especially Row Party!

Just read thru the responses...

We've never gone b4 and have been looking into it for this year. We're only about 5hrs away. Me and my wife will both be retired by then.

We've read thru the FAQs.
Is it advantageous to arrive early, say Thu? Or, will it be still quiet at that time?

Is it basically a big field?

Satellites for backup?

We have a motorhome with 100 gal fresh and I believe 60gal ea black and grey...

I have a portable tank for dumping. Is there a place I could dump that tank using my toad?

Parking in ones home state sounds fun, aka WI?

Any advice above and beyond my questions?

Thanks for ANY info everyone can provide...
Troy

A few cool stuff nearby
1. Buddy Holly’s crash site
2. The Surf Ballroom and museum
3. The last hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is in Mason City, they have tours once day at 11 am. Well worth it. When I went I was the only one on the tour. So it was like a private tour.

Anytime is a good time to arrive. Wednesday afternoon is probably the busiest time, as it's the first day for parking. The weekend is likely to be busy as well.

Is it basically a big field?

Yep, basically a big field. It used to be the Forest City municipal golf course, so not particularly level. Winnebago bought it and put in hundreds of electric hookups.

Satellites for backup?

If you're talking about entertainment, Not a whole lot of OTA, but usually a clear view of the sky. Wifi is available, but can bog down at times due to bandwidth.

Not really. You'd have to take your portable tank all the way into town to the city dump station. There is a honey wagon that comes through and will empty you, for a fee. We have never needed to pump out, only refilled our water tank one time. There is water available at the end of each row, so if you're in the middle and think you'll need water, make friends fast! <grin>. There is a centrally located bathhouse that will relieve much of your water and holding tank use.

Our first two years we were in our state row, now we are in the Forza row. State rows are fun, especially row party night.

Any advice above and beyond my questions?
