Winter in Florida or Belize??
My wife and I are from Belize. On previous visits to the US we have seen all these RV's going down the road and wondered.....what it would be like? Tomorrow we celebrate 25 years in business and decided to try the RV experience for this memorable occasion. So we bought a 1995 Winnebago Vectra diesel pusher and hit the road!!! On our first day we met a great couple at Camping world who gave us the RV 101 course over lunch.....since then we have been meeting really nice folks who are all willing to teach us the tricks of RVing...We are debating whether we winter in Florida or drive through Mexico to Belize. I wondered if there are others who may be interested in forming a caravan to go winter in Belize......please feel free to email us at: robnvet50rv@yahoo.com

Robnvet: Welcome to RV'ing. Rv'rs are all willing to help newcomers. As to your question, what is your starting point? Traveling to Belise sounds like a wonderful RV adventurebut there are probably lots of issues to be sorted out, EG: repair parts, insurances, etc. We winter in Florida but know nothing about Belize (not even sure I know where it is). If we can help w/Florida, just ask. Have fun. PB

I would love to make that trip, but finances wont allow it. For anyone thinking about it, look up Belize, it's beautiful.
It's also the home of Marie Sharps hot sauce. It's the best.

Tioga George has and still is traveling around Mexico for years.
He had only been robbed one time so far.

My wife & I would love to RV in Belize as we have non-rv friends who stay the winter there. However, we will not travel thru Mexico in an RV! At one time there was a proposal to link Florida & Belize with a ferry service. Someone actually purchased one of the ferries used between Nova Scotia & PEI & was refitting it in a Tampa boat yard. Last news was that they were working on getting Governmental approval for the service but I have not heard anything in over a year.

Leaked emails from the U.S. security firm Stratfor cite a Mexican diplomat who says the U.S. govt works with Mexican drug cartels to traffic drugs into the United States and has sided with the Sinola cartel in an attempt to limit the violence in Mexico. etc etc etc
Business Insider october 2 2012.
That notwithstanding, Mexico is as safe as ever. One does not hear of gringos being ripped off or killed in Mexico. If one does not wish for trouble or act like an idiot Mexico will take care of them.
Don't let the fear mongering talk you out of your travel plans.

We would very much like to make that trip! We travel to Florida every winter for 3-4 months, about 3,000 mi round trip. Unfortunately, Belize is at least 7,000 mi round trip. I'm afraid the fuel cost would be too prohibited for us right now. If my AAPL stock hit's over $700 again, then it may be a go

The fear mongering has nothing to do with our plans to never travel in Mexico. There is so much to see right here in United States !

Agreed. It's natural for any US or Canadian citizen to not want to travel in or through Mexico. There is so much to see and do north of that border. Although better safe than sorry, I would have no problem traveling there.

I have driven through Mexico in trucks and cars but never in a RV. We normally get Mexican Insurance and diesel is about $ 3.00 per gallon. I understand there are RV parks along the gulf and around Cancun and Playa del Carmen. If we decide to do it we plan to drive down in November and come back up in March.

I certainly agree!! Just that we can't take winters!! Cold for us is anything below 60! That's why we are debating whether we do or not....I think we may just stay in the south....Florida, Texas.....who knows maybe even California!!

That is an excellent idea and stopping off in Merida or Puerto Morelos near Cancun would work.....if you have any more info on this please let me know
