Winterization Technique or Bad Idea?

I purchased a motor home with the Aqua-Hot and Onon Generator with the Auto start. The area I live in only gets into the 20's for 2 to 4 days and then warms up. Does in make sense to leave the Aqua-Hot on 50 degrees in the cabin and the Onon On Auto Start in the Auto position rather than doing a "blow out" or antifreeze winterization. I would check each day to ensure the systems are working correctly> My thought is the genertor would only run when when the batteries call for additional amperage for the Aqua Hot System?

The only safe thing to do is winterize your system with antifreeze. Blowing out the lines won't get it done. The cost of the potential repairs far outweighs the slight benefit of not winterizing.

I did exactly what you're suggesting last winter for about six weeks ... didn't want to winterize before taking a mid-winter trip, then winterize again. The plan worked just fine; only downside was the cost (my Oasis hydronic system burned a LOT of diesel in six weeks). I didn't have to use the AGS, as I could run an extension cord for 20 amps -- plenty of power to run the heat and keep the batteries up.

I did it because I hadn't winterized this coach myself before, and expected it to be harder than it was. This year I did, and found that it cost all of $25 or so for pink stuff and maybe an hour of my time. If I had last winter to do over again, I'd just winterize twice -- I spent much more on fuel.

After you winterize a few times with pink stuff, it should take less than 30 minutes. Make your own checklist. I actually carry 4 gallons at all times just in case I get into an emergency situation on the road.

Many good videos available on the web.
