Wink winterizing for a short period of time

I live in Eastern OR where its really cold. I'm planning to take my new RV on a trip south in March and will have it unwinterized but when I come back I'm taking it on another trip 3 weeks later. any ideas of how to protect it from freezing for only 3 weeks besides getting it winterized again?

Do you have it stored where you can plug it in? If so, set the furnaces to 45-50 degrees to keep things from freezing. I rarely winterize ours since we use it almost monthly and it's been fine in ten degree weather for a few days. By late March the temps may begin to warm up a bit.

I'm in Minnesota where it also gets cold. If I were doing what you will be doing, I would winterize it for those three weeks. Heck, I would winterize it before getting back home to the cold. I might not do the anti-freeze addition, but I'd certainly use my compressor to blow out the lines.

It takes me about 20 minutes (from the start of "where did I put that fitting?" to "all done") to winterize. Freezing a line or fitting behind a wall is expensive and time-consuming to fix. Not worth it to me.

If you're committed to not winterizing, you'll need to explore whether you have any water lines that extend outside of your heated areas.

RVs don’t belong in Minnesota.

Is it normal to below freezing in March where you are?

Danged right! So I store mine in Arizona in the winter. And I hang around to keep watch over it.

I live in Kentucky and the temps are all over the place. I have found myself traveling more this winter for different reasons. I blew my water lines out and had a week of temps between -5 and 26 degrees. Went to Alabama the next week and no water leaks. You have to learn what works for your rig.

We’re from western NC where winter is not horrible, but gets tiring. So we head for Florida. Now dry camping at Sigsbee NAS Key West. Great, except for the no-see-ums which come right through your screens and suck all your blood at night. Lost 5lbs on this trip. We don’t de-winterize until we get to Florida. Just take enough water inside to last for 2 days.

Last yr I winterized 3 times
1. The fall
2. January after a Florida trip
3. March after a South Carolina trip

Safe is better.

When in doubt winterize, you'll be glad you did. Last spring I bought 15 gallons of Prestone RV A/F for $1 a gallon at Walmart at a 'get rid of it sale.' Also, if you are careful and want to bother, you can save some A/F when dewinterizing.

Learn how to winterize it yourself. Only takes less than an hour. Anti-freeze is relatively cheap compared to the damage frozen pipes take to repair.

I live in Western PA and I winterize mine at the end of October, de-winterize in late March or April.

You don't say how far south you are going and how long it will take to get back.
Checking the weather at home would be the best way to make a decision.

If they could publish which 2 weeks of the year they are having summer, it might be o.k. for a visit.
