Local news reports this morning stated that camping reservations at State Parks in Wisconsin are up 7%. Report went on to say that fuel prices were not at this time effecting camping reservations.

This is reflective of the feelings of mine & DW . After fighting snow drifts all winter we are not going to let fuel prices effect our summer camping plans although some of our trips may be shorter.

We just finished having our first long weekend in Canada, Victoria Day. Although camp grounds were busy many people/family's were car pooling to the campsites. Others stayed close to home and did not make the long trips to far off campgrounds. It will not affect my travel plans this summer but with prices here for diesel around $1.40- 1.50 per litre and gas prices a little lower many are not planning to making their long summer treks.

I'm seeing similar things in Pennsylvania. The campgrounds seem to be taking reservations and there hasn't been a big impact in total number of reservations made.

What I think the statistics don't show though is the distance those camping are actually traveling. For instance, the campgrounds are still filling their sites, but are the sites in the Eastern part of the state filled by campers who primarily live in the East and the same for the Western part of the state.

It seems everyone is still using the campgrounds, but I suspect they are just using the campgrounds a little closer to home.

There's a new commercial campaign here in OH pushing the state's attractions in an effort to get the locals to vacation at home. With prices on everything rising all the time, most folks from here won't be taking those summer trips to Disney World when Cedar Point or Great Wolf Lodge will do just as well for a lot less money.

I agree completely with what many of you are saying. There may be some RVers who decide to stay home, but most will just take shorter trips and stay a little closer to home.

I can see why sales of new RVs are down; but if you already own one, why not use it?
