Yes or no on having a spare tire?

We have a new 43 foot class A and I have thought about getting a good used spare tire not mounted of the same size just in case of a tire problem and i cannot find a correct size for a new one if needed. I know it will take up storage space but I was interested in what others are doing.

Are your tires an uncommon size? If so, then it might be worth it. But otherwise not.

A spare will take up a lot of room in the basement. If you have to have a flat tire replaced on the road the service company will ask you before they come out what size tires your MH uses. They will make sure they have one when they come out. That said I don't carry one. I'm sure others will voice their ideas.

I agree with FlyingDiver. If your tires are a common size, I would not carry a spare. Takes up too much space.

I carry just the rim. I'm more worried about finding a rim if it is damaged when I have a flat.

If I were to headed to Mexico then I would carry both but in the USA finding a tire quickly should not be much of a problem.

No spare in our 40 DP either.

I've had one flat and CoachNet sent out a guy with a new tire.

No spare. Just a good roadside assistance plan.

I guess I'm on the other side. I have a 40 foot DP and plan on changing my tires this summer. I'm going to save one for an unmounted spare. I have plenty of room in the basement. I'd rather call CoachNet and have them send someone to mount a tire than pay an exhorbitant rate for a replacement tire they won't match what I already have.

After being gouged a couple times in my trucking days I carry a spare. You can be at their mercy.

I carry an unmounted tire. I have no place to have a spare tire rack and I just like the warm fuzzy feeling of having a tire available if needed. Even if your tire is a common size, there have been cases where folks got shafted by the roadside service people. What happens is they don't have a tire like you are running and they sell you a replacement that you have to have, at a very marked up price. But then like I said, I just like that feeling of security in having the tire.

I'm with topdownman -- kept the best tire last time I put new ones on. It's about peace of mind. And if it is there, I will never need it, right? \ken
