Your propane usage

I know I'm at risk of asking the stupidest question ever on IRV2. But here it goes.
We will be using propane to heat water primary for showering and a little stove top cooking. Our refrigerator is electric, so no use there. Our water heater is a Suburban gas on demand water heater. How long do you guess the 2-30# tanks will last? I know it depends on how long you shower, but lets assume normal is 5 minutes. But We are trying to get a general idea for 2 people usage.
Thank you in advance.
Kim

What are you using for heat. The propane furnace in your motorhome will use a lot. ..use elect to heat. ..

Use electric to heat your motorhome and you could probably go well over a month. ...

Use propane to heat and your looking at well under a month

Warm months we would go 5-6 weeks on a 30# cylinder.
Cold months would be roughly 3 weeks.
Really cold .....30# every other day !!! (it was -19*F at night and warmed up to 2*F during day)

Want to get a better idea just add up your propane appliances btu/hr rates and divide by 60 to figure 'btu/minute' run time
Suburban On-Demand uses a 60,000 btu burner but only fires WHEN water flows (1000 btu/minute of use)
Stove top 'high output burner' on high (front burner)----9000 btu/hr
Stove top 'smaller burners' on high (back two)-----------5000 btu/hr each

Gallon propane has 91,500 btu (roughly---based on temp)
7.2 gallons per 30# cylinder

I never liked leaving the propane water heater on all the time. We turned ours off during the day and on in the evenings before we showered. You can probably go for a couple of months at least.

get a bluetooth tank monitor and see your usage then you can guesstimate for the future.

...or (and I know you know this already) turn one of the tanks OFF, leaving you one tank to use. When it runs out, you know how long you have, given your personal use factors, and you have one to use while finding a source for filling the first one.

Propane use is highly individual, depending on how cold it is, and how clean you like to stay, and what you like to eat.
