1986 "Yellowstone Cavalier"
Finally had enough of tents! Bought a 1986 Yellowstone Cavalier (26 ft.) It's on a Ford E-350 chassis with the 460. Only paid $1700 for it so as you can imagine, it needs a bit of work. Great mechanical condition, though. I need to fix the refrigerator (won't work on gas or electric) and the engine will only run on the front tank. I don't suppose anyone out there would know where to get a "Yellowstone" owners manual.

Great, another Vintage RV here. Glad to have you on iRV2.
You can pick up a Chiltons manual at the parts house to cover the E-35 chassis and 460 CID engine. Check on line for a manual on the frig.
All of the components are pretty standard on these units. Some of the wiring and such you will most likely need to trace yourself. Make sketches as you go for future reference.
Maybe you will get lucky and someone will have some literature on the Yellowstone unit.

Thanks, Ken. Yes, I already have the Chiltons and also manuals for the roof air and the Onan 4kw generator. These Yellowstones were only produced from 1975 til 1990 and they are difficult to find information for. I just replaced all of the ignition wires and spark plugs, Oh what a pain that was!! I have big hands so I had my wife help and it still took a day and a half! It now runs real good, the one leak in the roof is fixed and the roof (110 volt) AC is blowing 36 degree air!

I hope it is not 36 dF air from the unit. A properly running A/C with the fan on high speed should do about 20 dF across the unit (ie. difference between inlet and outlet temperature). With 36 dF air you most likely have a problem. First thing to check is the air filter and evaporator coil to be sure both are clean. Next make sure there are no leaks in the air system letting air bypass from the outlet side back to the coil inlet side.
If these are O.K., then you may be low on refrigerant. These units do not have charging ports and they have to be evacuated and have Schrader valves soldered in and the unit checked and recharged. If you see any oil around a fitting or anywhere on the refrigerant lines, it is probably from a refrigerant leak.
On the older rigs, keep a close eye on the roof joints and seams. Also keep the window joints sealed.
