Almost retired

Hi All,

Just joined the forums and glad to be here. I joined because of all the good threads I've been reading. The wife and I are going to be abandoning the working world and hitting the road as full timers hopefully next May.

We've owned a 5'er in the past but are currently truckless and RVless. We're starting our search now. We will be traveling with our 2 mutts and plan to take our time seeing the country, visiting the national parks and making our way to all the mlb stadiums.

As for rigs I'm leaning towards a newish Ram 2500 diesel, and a gently used 30ish ft 5'er. Some models we've liked so far are Prime Time Crusader. Open Ranger Roamer and Open Road Light.

So far we're enjoying shopping experience and I'm getting lots of good advice from different posts. It seems most of the questions I have others have asked as well.

I was preparing myself for retirement for 36 1/2 years. And I've never looked back.

My suggestion is to buy much more truck than you think you'll need. In your case, go for the D3500 1 ton dual rear wheel truck.

We read almost every day of how a 3/4 ton is not rated for many of the popular 5'ers.

I'm also in that group with a 03 F250 7.3 diesel crewcab 2wd. About 11k is the most I'd ever want to tow in a fifth wheel trailer.

Welcome to the irv2 gang! Glad you're here. Retirement sounds better every minute? My DW will be retiring May next year, too, but I still have a small computer services company to unload. Hopefully I'll just take off when the mood strikes us....color me slightly green with a case of "jealous." Wish the best in your search and remembering that the "good ole days" are ahead of you!
