An introduction of yet another RV newbie
Wow, this looks like a great forum!
Our family (wife, 3 preteen/teen kids, and I) are experienced travelers, but we've never done RVing. We've been toying with the idea of RVing for several years, but for whatever reason we've done other sorts of travel. We are generally relatively light travelers (when we flew for a week to Egypt on our last trip, we packed only what could fit under the seat in front of us), so this is going to be a new experience for us.
Late June 2014, we are flying to SLC, and renting either a C25 or C30 (we have not decided which yet) for a two week trip. We are looking to do a loop circumscribing Wyoming, hitting the classic western US sites, such as Salt Lake City, Craters of the Moon, Yellowstone, Cody, Little Bighorn, Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, Chimney Rock, Cheyenne, Denver, Rocky Nt'l Park, Arches, and like.
I am sure that I'll have lots of questions, but let me read through the forum first, so that I don't ask the same tired questions over and over again.
Thank you!

, pdmlynek! We got started RV'ing the same way! At the time we had our 18mo old son, we rented a Cruise America 25' and toured coastal and central Oregon for a week. We also travel light, normally carry-on's only, but for this trip did have one big bag with towels, sleeping bags, some cooking utensils and small camping pot and pan set (which we still use in our latest RV), etc in addition to clothes.
We loved being able to stop most everywhere we wanted to. We stayed overnight in places convenient to where we were going, national and state park campgrounds, church parking lots, fishing access points, even the jet boat ride company parking lot in Gold Beach. We had lunch in lots of neat places including a small parking area among some giant Sequoias near Jedediah Smith State Park.
It was a wonderful vacation and cemented our desire to have an RV to see this great nation in!

Welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid none of you will ever want to RV again if you go to all the places you mentioned over a period of two weeks.
That's an awful lot of driving and little time for exploring the places you visit.
Keep in mind the 4th of July can be a very difficult time to get reservations in any campgrounds.
I'd suggest the largest RV you can rent.

Thank you for such a warm welcome! I appreciate it.
As far as Arch Hoagland's comment goes, yes, there is no sense in turning a vacation into a race. It would kind of defeat the purpose. As a still fully employed couple who cannot to take too much time off, we are well cognizant of the balance of seeing more things but superficially vs enjoying thing more in depth but only few of them. On the balance we are not "windshield tourists" or "if it is Tuesday this must be Belgium" tourists, but we don't hang around needlessly either.
But there is another facet of travel planning. Whenever we travel, we typically plan to do and visit about 3 times as much as we have time. There is always some strike going on, or a riot, or a bridge is washed out, or a ferry schedule has changed, or a museum is closed, or some of us get sick, or a temple is undergoing renovation, or a new interesting exhibit has opened up, or whatever. That way we always have some other plans to fall back on.

Welcome to the forum. I think as long as you are flexible regarding your travel things will work out well. Don't be afraid to change plans or locations depending on how things are going. That's the great thing about RVing you can pretty much be where you want to be. Your not dependent on airlines , motel reservations or car rentals.
