Another newbie checking in with a question
Hi Everyone!
My husband and I have been camping in various types of campers forever, but purchased a beautiful, used motorhome in January, since I retired, and plan on doing some big trips. I just happened to find this site and can't wait to search around and see what we can learn from everyone!
I do have one question now, though. We would like to take up the carpet and tile flooring in the living area of the motorhome and replace it with laminate flooring. Can any floor installer do this or should the dealership do it because of the slide outs? Of course, it would be much cheaper to avoid the dealer, but wasn't sure about the slide outs causing some issues. Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can give!

There are several threads on this forum that have addressed this project. I have no experience in it but have the opinion that if you are not going to do it yourself find someone who has had experience at it.

I'd think with all the new floor covering available this is a DIY project. Laminate flooring is especially easy to install. Be sure of a good, flat, underlayment and don't build up new floor to be higher than the original. Check to see if the slide floats, slides, or rolls over the installed flooring. Measure twice, cut once.
There's a lot to be said for pride in DIY, even more in cost savings.

flooring height is certainly going to be a concern with slide outs ... but as stated earlier, there have been several folks who have done it DYI ... doing searches in the topic threads should help out a bunch ......
We're glad your here ...... lots of good info up in here !!!!

We ripped out all carpeting in our 1999 Airstream. Put in "engineered" flooring, "click" together with pre glued foam backing from Lumber Liquidators. Three years, zero issues.
I installed myself with rudimentary carpentry skills and patience. Did our 34' rig in a day.
Installed with 3/16-1/4" perimeter gap, added a "quarter round" for trim and went camping.
It increased the static load by 140# over carpeting.
