another noob planning ahead :)

Hi all, total RV novice here
My gal and I will be hitting the road as full timers mostly in the mid west and SE in about a year and half. short term were looking at 9 mo/year on the road for work and really need to get away from the motels/rentals as that money soo could be better spent in an RV/truck as we save up for a retirement place. Ive been doing ALOT of reading and picking through RV vids and have narrowed down matters to a good quality 5th wheel (perhaps used) and a diesel crewcab (probably dually). Want to get as big a 5th wheel we can legally pull in most any state (figure 55ft comb and 40ft max trailer - actual length not model number hocus pocus.)
After alot of reading considering full timing Ive got alot of concerns over pretty much anything recently made under the Thor or BH product lines as not really suitable for full time and lots of moves well need over the next ten years. Considering many of the better makers have been driven out of business by the larger conglomerates it seems choices of truly well built 5th wheels has shrunk alot. At this point theres a few used and fewer new ones that will fit that bill it seems to us. Vanleigh, DVR/MS, Newmar, Agusta Luxe & Ambition, New Horizon, maybe Redwood seem to carry decent frames/ construction. As far as trucks go were leaning RAM with the Cummins based on mostly probability of dependability and work ease...anyway hope to converse with you experienced owners over the next year and half and pick up as many tips as we can before the final trigger pulls...thanks in advance

Just a couple of thought. I love the Vanleigh line, but their CCC (cargo carrying capacity) is very limited. A RAM dually drive train can't be beat, it will FAR outlast the rest of the truck. There is a reason the Fords have led the market for over 20 years. The 6.7 diesel is very solid. Take a look at the Cedar Creek models. Mine is new and very solidly built.

Good point on the cargo capacity..Ill be looking at that considering my Gal likes to pack every conceivable space
I thought Cedar Creek is part of Forrest River i.e. Berkshire Hathoway?.my general thoughts are to avoid BH or Thor. Not to say every model is the same but their collective take over of the market gives me concerns on quality in their competition of each other on cost...
I think all big 3 PU truck manfs are more then capable but the tipping point in my thought that service on the cummins 6 appeals to me over any possible cab removals for serious engine work on the Ford and GM...if I could get a cummins 6 in a ford with an allison tranny Id be all over it
