Bilstein shock failure

A couple a months ago I popped for four new Bilstein shocks on my 1997 Pace Arrow 34j. Today, on her maiden 2021 voyage, the left front shock shaft broke away from the shock mount. With nothing to hold the shaft in place, it went to full extension and pierced the drivers floorboard under the seat.

What a disappointment.

That should be warrantied by Bilstien as defective workmanship, and IMO they should pay for repairs to your floorboard.

Welcome to the forum and I agree they should be covered under warranty.

**UPDATE**. Yes, Bilstein will warranty the unit and Shock Surplus will facilitate the exchange. Iím out shipping both ways. The apparent cause is separation of the upper mount from the threaded, not welded, shaft. Since only the top two or three threads are damaged there must have been insufficient thread engagement from the factory. Now Iím pulling the other three to verify a common cause does not exist. What a hassle.Click image for larger version
