Checking In
Hello, everyone! We are new members from Bossier City, LA.
I grew up tent camping, but my husband had never camped at all. After we took our 4-mo-old daughter out in a tent the first time (many years ago), his parents gave us a Jayco pop-up for Christmas. It seemed luxurious at the time. We camped and traveled in that for 15 years, but I never considered it an RV--I guess because I couldn't see myself living in it. Actually, as the kids became teens, we camped in the pop-up and an auxiliary tent for the overflow...
Nearly two years ago, we bought a new travel trailer: Dutchmen Aspen Trail, 31 ft. with two slides. We have used it mostly for weekends and one or two week-long vacations a year. We both teach school, but we've been so busy with kids' activities and continuing education, summer programs, etc. that we haven't been able to take an extended summer trip with it yet. We are planning to go fulltime, or at least ten months out of the year, when Dale retires and the last kid heads to college in 2015. We would go now if we could!
We love nature, hiking, canoeing, and Dutch oven cooking, and camp in state/national parks for the most part. I have always had minimalist tendencies, but "opposites attract" and Dale has hoarder tendencies. We will definitely need to visit a truck scale before our next trip.
I have been scanning through the forums for the last week and have learned a lot already--didn't know how much I didn't know! Thanks for all the great advice provided here.

Thank you all for the friendly welcome.
I don't really have any photos of the trailer now; I'll be sure to get some next time we take it out and will post them here.
Spring has arrived in north Louisiana (78* today/86 by Monday), and I'm ready to go.

Thanks, we're happy with it. It's spacious enough to be comfortable, and it fits our lifestyle (which means as much time outside around the campfire as inside the RV).
My DIY home improvement project for this summer is sewing new covers for the dinette cushions and a duvet cover to replace the original bedding. Oh, and adding a stainless steel panel on the freezer door so I can use the nifty magnetic spice jars I ordered never thinking to check whether the fridge was magnetic. Just minor touches that will make me smile.
Note to RVMs--Did ya notice? No TV. Don't have it/don't need it!
