Checking in

Hi,

My first RV! I've been searching for almost two years for a reasonably priced Class B to replace tent camping at the many music festivals I photograph for, and finally found one less than 15 miles away, purchased in mid September. It's a 1997 Pleasureway STW, Dodge 3500 chassis with about 136k miles and newly rebuilt engine.

I will mostly dry camp, and am pleased that after my first two outings of four days each the house battery did just fine (I had replaced all bulbs with LED, which may have helped).

The Pleasureway was not without its issues. The previous owners, an elderly couple, neglected a roof leak around the ceiling vent that caused a good bit of rot. It's been cleaned up, vent replaced and all leaks patched and I'm considering having the ceiling rebuilt this winter although it isn't a huge priority. Owners only ever went to campsites and plugged in, so house battery and 12v components were a concern but all appears well. The generator hadn't been used in years, and while I'm grateful that it runs it could run a bit smoother, this is my current project. Everything else seems great - fridge runs on all power sources, AC, heater (separate units), stove, water pump, all is well for a van of its age and previous neglect.

I gotta say, I was (am?) intimidated as all getout! I do a lot of repairs at home, including electrical and water system but still was afraid to dive in. Thanks to lots of forum and youtube searches my confidence level is good and I'm working through minor issues and improvements without difficulty. I've found nobody with this particular model, but I've been able to piece together knowledge based on installed components.

Now I'm just excited to get out there. One more music event this weekend and then home to winterize (Virginia can get cold), and dream about next spring.

Cheers.

Well, you've tried it out and it seems to function as you expected. I haven't had a Type B MH since 1997 when we traded of the 1988 Okanagan we bought new. It had a solid fiberglass roof and honestly I don't remember ever checking the roof sealants!
