Checking in from NH

We’ve owned our 1975 Winnebago 25’ Chieftain since 2006 and my wife and I use it for trips to local racing venues (autocrosses, hillclimbs and working at NASCAR and Indy Car races at NHMS.) The longest trip we made was about 250 miles round trip. We sometimes refer to it as our steel tent since most of the time we spend in it is at night. It does make a great place to relax during breaks in the action and have fellow racers hang out with us as well. We removed the upper bunk since our kids (now 23 and 21) have no interest in staying overnight in the Winnie anymore so saves a bit of weight and it seemed to cut down on the swaying of the rig on the road since all that weight was so high up.

We removed the original orange-ish carpet from the door back to the bathroom and replaced it with stick down wood grain flooring which is certainly easier to keep clean. I plan to replace the covering on the engine cover with the movie ‘Cars’ themed carpet and probably continue the stick down flooring for the rest of the front seat area. We had the front seats recovered with a saddle vinyl since the original fabric was all ripped and they look real nice.

I finally got the 5kw Onan generator running last year after discovering the problem was simply a blown fuse…. Prior to that we hauled around a portable generator, but it wasn’t powerful enough to run the a/c, so now we can keep cool as well as dry.
