Hello iRV2'ers,

First post and I guess it should be in the intro section...I try hard to follow the rules. Seems things go easier when I do.

Now that we have that empty nest thing going on around here, wifey and I are fairly excited to consider our first motorhome. I have lurked and read more than I can possibly remember here (mostly in the Class A forums) and admittedly, it's been very entertaining and a lot educational. That "Don't Do This" thread is not only amusing but if taken to heart, I know it would serve new folks like us very well in learning from others experiences.

I am a big rigger (moving cars via one of those full-sized 75' rigs) currently and have been for almost 40 years...always as an owner/operator. While that does nothing for my RV'ing experience, it does have it's benefits as I anticipate herding one of these up and down the boulevard getting to places we would like to see. Also, the O/O part of it has taught me much about preventive maintenance and the need to care for my equipment. I am able to do many repairs on my own but heavy engine/drivetrain stuff, I'd mostly farm out. I'm currently running an extended-hood Peterbilt with an ISX 565 Cummins (post-2002 emissions even though it's in an '07 model) and while there are some basic external components I feel comfortable working on, these engines have gotten to the point one must be certified to do many of the repairs. But I recognize there are a lot of things I need to learn about RV's and especially Class A's and a lot of that only comes from experience and paying attention to those that are well versed. I've witnessed my share of these Class A's hung up high-ended in the medians and on humps so some things will come natural. :-)

We are presently looking to buy used. Reading a lot here, I can get a good handle to what to look for and common problems, etc associated with various makes/models. My big question was gas vs diesel, of course. Also, size that we would be comfortable with, floorplans, etc. Lots of questions and many have been answered by using the search functions here. I'll try not to bore anyone with repeated questions but you know I have a ton of 'em.

That's enough here...I'll gravitate over to another appropriate forum section to ask some questions and plead for some advice from the learned.

Thanks to the creators, sponsors and members of iRV2 for the availability of such a forum...I don't believe I would even undertake such a step without the available knowledge and advice of many old timers I have read here. I can still remember my learning days (read that years) in the over-the-road career and it was correct whoever said experience is the best teacher. I learn new stuff every day and right now...I have a thirst to know how to make this transition the smoothest and most enjoyable that I possibly can.

hello from another bluegrasser,,,,the wife and i are on the eastern side carter county

we are very close to carter caves, caverun,greenbo, grayson lake, all of these are less than a half hour from our front door..if you or anyone else plans a trip this way let us know,,,would love to meet you..

--we just bought our first motorhome, it is a nice little project for us we should be ready by the first of spring.

Not so far from us, Bap. I'm huntin' pretty hard but not going to settle. I have digested about all the info I can possibly retain in this old noggin but there's so much more to learn. I'm about to the point to post that thread "Tell Me Which Class A to Buy!". I've made a dozen lists and have a notebook full of notes to adhere to from the sage advice I have come across here on iRV2.

Welcome Truckist. I looked for a while and decided on a used Fleetwood Pace Arrow 35' Tag Axel. Really like it so far and feel like I got a great deal. They are out there but can be hard to find sometimes. Good luck and I know you will like the forum!
