Hi Y'all,
Nubie from Texas. Been around Motor Homes awhile. No real big deal. Guess I've been a member of Good Sam about 25 years now. Most of my camping is usually done at Lake Whitney. Nice little Marina there. Harbor Master.
I tried posting here last night but ran into a lot of trouble so had to wait till today. I'm retired and divorced so do most when I can by my self. Live in Mansfield Tx. Have two grown kids and four grand children. Have a 1987 Southwind that still kooks new inside. It has a lot going for it with only one little problem. It was used when I bought it and never had a wiring diagram. The Batteries seem to over charge and die. I have had someone look at it and never got a good fix on it.
If the picture will attach it is me and my Twin Granddaughters at a softball game. I also have a hobby in photography. Just amateur (did I spell that right) stuff.
I hope I can figure out this site.
Thanks

How long does it take to kill them? I assume they overcharge when the motorhome is plugged in, if so:
1) This is normal for an older motor home with a "dumb" charger. Most older chargers will charge at 13.6v or greater. The eventually heats up the acid, which evaporates. Less acid results in taking more heat and eventually the batteries boil out.
To solve:
1) Periodic maintenance is required. I'd be checking the water on the batteries once per week if on a dumb charger.
2) Replace the voltage converter with a modern version that has a "float" charger...

Howdy cowboy! Welcome to IRV2! We're mighty glad you joined us!
Sorry I can't help with your question but I would suggest that you will get much better results if you post questions over in the appropriate areas of the forum. Maybe one of the Moderators will move this over for you. Hope you find your problem!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
