Feeling like George Jefferson!!
Hello Everyone. Been a tent person all my life, but these older bones were having more and more difficulty getting up off that air mattress on the ground. So, deciding that a Pop Up would be a great alternative, I spent about 6 months looking at reviews, Craig's List and different Manufacturer's and models on the used market. Had an idea of what I needed to have, but I kept my mind open for price/options and---CONDITION that was available within 100 miles of me. Man, these things were being snatched up faster than Hot Cakes at a Waffle House. Well, I finally ran into some luck and went to check out a 1996 Jayco on Monday. And less than 10 miles from where I live. That's Fate. Had what I wanted most--an Air Conditioner with separate Furnace(heater),Refrigerator and nice 5 gallon(clean) water holding tank. Didn't need or care for heated mattress, outside shower, or inside Toilet/Shower with 30gal water tank and Grey water tank. Just means more to go wrong and more weight that I didn't need to tow with my Blazer ZR2 and it's V-6. Also means, more Winter prep/storage. Unit, being older, was in very decent condition, yet with easily repairable minor items. Haggled for a bit with owner for an even better price due to the minor issues, and VIOLA!! I'm now the new owner of a Jayco Eagle 10 Pop Up. I'm so stoked. First thing I got was a spare Wheel/Tire(missing), New Taillight/Marker bulbs, and a portable Toilet that folds up(hopefully NOT with me on it) for those moments that my Wife and I will be roughing it in those premative campsites. Got it home and removed all lens' around camper and sprayed contact cleaner on electrical terminals(some bulbs burned out/bad contacts), put some Dielectric grease on contacts and replaced all bulbs with new and washed/cleaned out all lens for a better appearance. Will need to go to an RV Parts Store to get some minor items like covers for Propane tank, A/C and Spare Tire, and some interior door/drawer latches, but I now don't need to worry about ground conditions for my bed. "Movin' on Up"!!!

Welcome to iRV2!
Like you, many of us started out on the ground and then age started taking it's toll and we moved on up. I now sleep about 6ft off the ground.
If I had to go back to a tent I'd still camp, but I would have to buy a much bigger bottle of Tylenol!

This is one really fine post, I hope you find the comfort you are seeking and it enables more fun times camping. I believe the mattress off the ground is the very best part of having an RV.
