First Time Hitting the Road

I bought my 2007 36ft Windsport 3 months ago and have been working on it and spending money on it like a drunken sailor since day one of owning it.
I've used it one weekend with no issues, it was basically a shake down test to see if all the work I did like suspension upgrades and fluid changes/maintenance, was done correctly and it was.
But next week I hit the road and driving with a friend from Toronto to Las Vegas. Unfortunately we can't go through Colorado and Utah because it will be too cold in the mountains for the plumbing this time of year, so we have to skirt around the mountains.
I am asking for and will take any good advice from experienced RVers on what to expect, avoid and do. Thank you

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.

Taking a southerly route will probably be the best idea if you are afraid of the cold in the mountains. I would do the Interstates south to I-40 then stay on that to Vegas.

Happy Trails!!!

Invest in a remote temperature monitor for the basement wet bay. If you don't have a wet bay heater you should rig up something that will provide heat if necessary, might be worthwhile to do this as a back up as the usual wet bay heaters provide minimal heat output.

I traveled to Norther Michigan in Mar 2011. There had been a big snow event in Northern Wisconsin, I stopped at a Walmart and there were 10' high piles of snow surrounding the parking lot, it was like a deep freeze. I ran the generator all night. I had setup a small cube heater in the basement and used a thermostatically controlled plug that turned it off/on at 38 F.

Prior to the trip I spent some time & spray foam sealing as many of the openings in the chassis rails to keep air movement to a minimal. When I was parked and it was really cold out I kept the slides in. When it was really cold I put some large sun shades in the front and heavy blankets across the inside of the windshield.

I survived, barely. We got 2' of snow in April and snow was still on the ground till mid/late May.
